Sometimes you want a few more pairs of hands. The answer is simple, you need to get yourself a housewife. The folk doll has 10 handles, thanks to which any task will be completed on time and with high quality. Every woman can do it.

Legend of the doll

There is a story explaining the appearance of the Ten-Handed doll among the ancient Slavs. Many believed that the talisman was given to one housewife by the goddess of the hearth and harvest, Mokosha. Such generosity on the part of the divine forces is explained by the chronic fatigue of the woman, who could not withstand the daily routine work, so she did not have time to do anything.

The hostess was sad and began to sob bitterly. Makosh responded to her cry and gave the suffering one another pair of hands, but this was not enough. Then the goddess again took pity and gave several more pairs of hands to the woman. When the already ten-armed mistress turned to the goddess again, this angered her. The dissatisfied Makosh took the gift back, but left a small talisman - the doll was protected by the Ten Handle.

Grandmother's doll (Akka)

The Sami people had a custom of writing secret family signs and spells in the blood of sacrificial deer on a piece of birch bark. Rolled into a tube and tied with braid, the birch bark amulet was worn on the chest under clothing. It served as protection from evil spirits, protected from diseases and various misfortunes, gave strength and brought good luck.

When persecution of Sami shrines began in the Sami lands under the influence of Christianity, in one Sami family the eldest woman Akke (which means grandmother in Sami) figured out how to outwit the Christian priests and preserve her custom.

She took a birch bark amulet, dressed it in the clothes of Russian women and put it in the hand of her youngest grandson.

Since then, all grandmothers secretly made a doll for each of their grandchildren, which they began to call Akka.

The meaning of the amulet

The Ten-Handed rag doll was created for adult women. The toy acted as an assistant in the household, so children had no use for it. For an adult housewife who regularly has a lot of housework, this talisman helps her cope with routine tasks faster and more efficiently. They made the item before the holidays or to help when needed.

More often, the Ten Handles were presented to young girls who wanted to get married soon. The Slavs believed that the doll would help a woman cope before the wedding troubles. If a girl had to move to the groom’s house after the wedding, then the gift would help her quickly adapt to her new place of residence. Less often, the Ten Handle was given to older women with several children, because they could use some extra help.

The doll improves the efficiency of washing, cleaning, knitting, embroidering, cooking, as indicated by the interpretation from the sources. The amulet works by improving the well-being of the housewife, giving her vigor, energy and readiness to perform household duties with renewed vigor.

The doll is not suitable for men's activities (business, repairing or repairing equipment, hunting, fishing).

Who needs a ten pen

The folk doll of ten hands was given to the bride on her wedding day.
It is designed to help the young housewife establish life in her new family. In the old days, the doll was made on November 14, when the entire harvest was harvested. The girls got together and prepared a helper for themselves, who was immediately burned in the fire.

Also, the doll was given to the young housewife during the wedding so that everything would work out for her and she would have enough time both for housework and for her husband and children.

In the modern world, the amulet has not lost its meaning and is necessary for every housewife to help around the house. If you spend a lot of time at work. You can make a doll and place it at your workplace, which will give you strength to complete milestones.

Appearance and features of the Ten Handles

The ritual object actually looks strange. The protective doll Ten Hands is depicted with ten hands, 5 on each side. Usually an amulet was created from bast and straw. During the production of the Ten Handles, a red thread was used for constriction so that the doll acquired a decorated appearance. To improve the appearance, multi-colored ribbons were woven into the hair. Such decorative elements gave a memorable and beautiful look.

The Ten-Handed doll has individual manufacturing features that differ from the creation of other dolls. Description of the rules includes:

  1. Motanka is not used for playing with children. You cannot give other people a personalized amulet intended for a specific magical purpose. If you need to give a child a toy, it is better to make a Diaper.
  2. The fabric doll was created to help for life. The straw option is temporary. Such amulets were charged for a specific action and asked for help. When the plan came true, they said goodbye to the talisman and then burned it.
  3. To create a durable doll, you need to select high-quality materials. If you select good accessories, the doll will survive more than one decade.
  4. You can't ask too much from a toy mascot. The Ten-Handed doll was created to help with household chores, and not to shift the responsibilities of cleaning or washing things.
  5. Motanka was made from fabric, bast, thread or yarn.

Difference from the Filippovka doll

The ten-handed amulet can be confused with another amulet that has six arms. The second name of Filippovka is Shestiruchka. The second distinctive attribute is the presence of a bag of coins and grain in his hands. Unlike the Ten Handles, the Fillipovka symbolizes good luck and material wealth. For many, the Six Hand is a symbol of a woman who has been married for a long time.

A doll with ten arms is not covered with a scarf, as it signifies female youth. The six-handed one is an older image, so the presence of a headdress on the doll is a mandatory element of decor.

We have probably collected all types of Slavic motanka dolls for all occasions.

Purpose and properties of the amulet doll

The 10 hands of the doll symbolize help in a woman’s important matters. During production, the craftswoman herself made a wish for each of the handles about what she needed help with.

Such a talisman was usually created by young ladies who were going to celebrate their wedding. It was necessary to actively prepare a dowry, and after the wedding, to cope with all household chores. The ten-handed one was called upon to help the young bride. Often the doll was created by young women after the wedding.

Adult women made not the Ten Handle, but the Fillipovka. She was not wearing a braid, but wearing a headscarf, and definitely an apron. Fillipovka had not 10 arms, but 6. Often the doll was supplemented with a bag with a coin, so that not only comfort, but also financial well-being reigned in the family.

We create a doll with our own hands

The folk talisman is created in stages, following clear manufacturing canons. In order for the assistant to have magical powers, you must adhere to the rules for creating a ritual object.

Step-by-step instructions include the following steps:

  1. It is recommended to work on creating a protective object in complete silence and without attracting prying eyes. Residents must be warned in advance. When they need to start work, they are asked to leave the room until the hostess finishes the task.
  2. When the hands are attached, each one is individually cast with a spell. You don't need to know any special magic words. Each hand is assigned a specific skill while weaving in its own words. In order not to be distracted by thoughts, it is better to make a list of desired features in advance.
  3. Ten-handed dolls are made at a time. You cannot be distracted by other things, leave the house or go to bed. They choose a convenient, free time for several hours so that the hostess can fit in the creation of the amulet.

Mandatory attributes of the amulet's power are red threads and ribbons. They need to be talked into.

Red color is a symbol of the Sun, vitality (identification with blood). By weaving multi-colored ribbons into the hair of Ten Hands, you can supplement the magical energy in the doll that was embedded during the creation of the talisman.

Master class on making from bast

This material is traditional in Slavic culture, so it makes the best amulets. It is easier to create an amulet from it than from a fabric base. Bast is cheaper and does not need to be cut or secured with other threads.

To make a Ten-Handed doll, you need to purchase the following ingredients:

  1. Five skeins of wool thread. It is recommended to purchase thick skeins of red color.
  2. Lyko. The quantity is selected individually, depending on the planned size of the doll.
  3. Thin red ribbon.
  4. Wide yellow ribbon.

Execution steps include:

  1. You need to disconnect two strands from the bast bundle. A thick bun is used for the body, and a thin one is required to create a braid. A large strand is divided into two parts and then tied with a ribbon. The second part is threaded through the same strand. The ends are stretched upward, in opposite directions.
  2. The bottom strand is tied with thread. The head is formed at the bend. The neck is separated from the head with a thread. To avoid contrast, it is better to choose a skein for tying in a neutral shade that does not stand out against the background of the bast tufts.
  3. A braid is made from the second strand. The remains of the brush are secured with thread.
  4. Next you need to start making the handles. To create five pairs you will need 5 blanks. Each blank is attached to the body to make a total of 10 arms. The bundles are tied so that the ends are not visible under the layers of thread at the base of the body. At the end, palms are formed using a skein. It is better to immediately form bundles, tying them with multi-colored threads, and then you can attach them to the base.
  5. After rewinding, take a thick red thread, and tie the bast with a cross at the level of the arms and base of the body. This will give the structure strength.
  6. The braid is lowered down and tied with a wide, bright ribbon. They secure it all on top with a thin ribbon so that the braid does not come undone in the future.
  7. The doll is almost ready. The last element of the look is adding bows. At the hem level, where the bast is loose under the body, small red bows are knitted. Required quantity – 9 pieces.

The amulet is almost ready. It must be activated by a conspiracy or a regular request for help. After which the doll is placed in a prominent place.

Step-by-step instructions for creating from fabric

The doll is made from scraps, without stitching. Ingredients required:

  1. White fabric for the base, 9 by 30 cm.
  2. 5 flaps for arms - 5 by 15 cm.
  3. For the skirt, colorful fabric - 11 by 20 cm.
  4. Trim for an apron. You can take one or several layers.
  5. Natural filler - cotton wool, fluff, wool or linen.

After collecting the material, you can start working:

  1. The fabric for the body is folded so that two parts come out. A linen hair blank is threaded under the bend.
  2. Next, the segment is pulled with a red thread in two parts so that a border appears between the hair bun and the head.
  3. The blanks for the hands are folded evenly, horizontally, towards each other. The ends are tied with a red thread on both sides to mark the border of the palms.

  4. Then the handles are tied in the middle.
  5. Next, the bundle from the arms is attached to the body in the middle at the back with a thread so that the structure is strong and does not fall apart. The easiest way is to pull the thread crosswise between the handles and tie it around the body.
  6. Next, thread the skirt inside out, secure it with a thread at the base of the body and unroll it.
  7. An apron is threaded in this way.
  8. At the end, they braid the braid, attach a bow and tie a warrior.

The Ten-Handed doll is ready. It must be placed in a prominent place, having previously cast a spell.

How to make a talisman from threads

How to make an amulet:

  1. Threads are wound onto the base to create a bundle. The skein is then cut. The resulting end is tied with a single-color thread and a tight braid is woven. Also, the required color is wound from the second end. 5 pairs of hands do this. Then the ends are trimmed with scissors.
