In one of the classic versions, runes are carved on wooden tablets . If you think about this topic, you will find that you can easily cope with such a task on your own and make your own runic set or runic amulet.

Why should you even bother yourself, you ask, if beautiful, ready-made sets of runes, or individual amulets are sold in stores?

I will answer that all magical attributes created with one’s own hand have greater magical power, and in addition, an additional effect, for example, protective functions that restore the biofield.

Although sometimes store-bought witchcraft things work just as well. Here, focus on what is convenient for you and what works for you.

So what do you need to make your own? You will need a tree branch.

Different tree species have different properties.

• Birch - gives peace of mind and helps to establish a connection with ancestors.
• Oak - strength of body and spirit
• Pine, conifers - protection from evil, expels harmful spirits

• Cherry - the tree of the god Vishnu, connection with higher powers

Etc., Mother Nature has given us many plants with wonderful energy and properties.

It is worth noting that you should avoid using so-called vampire trees . Among them, aspen ranks first. This breed can be used in magic very carefully, although sometimes it can be of great help (if something needs to be removed, or “sucked out”).

The rule of good form in magic is a respectful attitude towards plants and the plant kingdom as a whole, as well as towards the place where, for example, the collection of material or ritual is carried out.

You can ask the Forester to give you what you are looking for and point you to the right tree. And you also need to ask the tree for its branch. And also leave an offering to the spirit of the place, and to the disturbed plant itself.

Then, accordingly, the branch is sawn and runes can be burned out on individual boards with a hot knife. It is important not to get burned here . Then, you can proceed to activating the runes.

Use of animal bones

Sometimes you can use animal bones to inflict negative programs. At the same time, the bone must already be old so that the spirit of the animal does not make claims against you, so to speak.

It is clear that I advise applying negative programs only in case of self-defense. I don’t recommend anyone to attack first, as you can bring a lot of problems both on your own head and on the heads of your relatives.

Why sometimes runes don't work

Of great importance is the material from which the rune is made, who made it, and whether it was chosen correctly for this or that person, taking into account his request and characteristics. For example, a person acquired a rune for love, but in fact needs protection from negative influences. If the rune was bought in a jewelry store or underground store, it will be of little use; worse, it can cause harm. When choosing runes, every detail is important.

Making runes is a very complex, subtle esoteric work that requires a certain state, infusion, skills and experience. What is important is the person’s personal mood and the fact whether he believes in the power of the amulet or not. We can say for sure that the amulet will hardly help a skeptical person. The need for proper activation has already been mentioned above.

About activation by blood and saliva

Some sources recommend sprinkling runes with your own blood, supposedly this will make them work better. But it is not exactly. In general, many of my colleagues give examples that this action can be very dangerous.

It is quite possible that there once existed traditions in which this magical operation was used quite successfully, with all the necessary magical precautions. However, in most cases, these traditions are lost.

Blood is your materialized energy; moreover, it contains your DNA, which can be compared to some kind of unique signature. And since it is a super-high-energy substance, low spirits love to consume its energy.

Today, those who sprinkle runes with blood, not knowing the true traditions, have every chance that they will attract clouds of all kinds of demons and demons who will flock to the blood like locusts, having a completely disastrous effect on the life of the operator. And there is a lot of real evidence of this in practice.

In addition, extracting blood, say, from a finger or nose, is, to put it mildly, not the most pleasant idea. However, anyone who wants can take the risk.

For example, in the Late Icelandic magical tradition, the finger from which the blood was taken, the day of the week, the number of runes in the formula and the position of the Moon are taken into account. What factors the ancient Scandinavians themselves associated runic magic with is generally unknown and cannot be reconstructed.

However, fortunately, for most practitioners the runes work without any bloody scenes or outpourings . Nowadays, blood has been replaced with saliva. And also menstrual flow or sperm. And sometimes even morning urine. Although for many runists this is not at all necessary. And here I move on to the next important topic.

Why do homemade runes work better?

Any magical object that an esotericist comes into contact with during work interacts with the energy of its owner, thereby creating a strong energy connection that works in both directions: from the esotericist to the object and vice versa. It is not for nothing that there are special rituals for charging new Tarot decks, amulets, pendulums and other tools of magical work.

When a person makes a magical instrument with his own hands, he transfers much more of his own energy to it, which means that the object, even at the moment of creation, becomes closer to its master. All this is fully applicable to runes.

Of course, you can buy a ready-made set, charge it and successfully use it in practice, but nevertheless, knowing how to make runes with your own hands will still be useful, because after some time you may have a desire to work with your own futhark.

Turning on runes in yourself

Believe it or not, some magicians do not need to activate or qualify runes at all when working with them. The thing is that such practices have developed their energy so much that their vibrations coincide and resonate with runic forces. And they became their pure guides.

Such mastery is achieved through meditation, living the runes, deep immersion in their energy, and sincere interaction with it.

However, not all rune magicians do such an immersion, therefore, sometimes they use other methods of activation, more modern, however, than activation with blood.

How to activate runes with the element of fire

Activation of runes by burning

It's done like this. Write runes, a formula, or stand in a photograph of a person, make a reservation, and burn it on a candle. During the combustion process, information about a given program passes from the material to the subtle plane. Scatter the ashes to the wind.

Activate runes in this way only if you are 100% sure that you do not want to cancel their effect. After all, if you have lost the media, it will be difficult to deactivate them.

Activation over fire

A sophisticated method from Western colleagues. Hold the photo with the specified runes, the side on which they are applied, to the candle fire. But keep it so that it doesn't catch fire. And a light film should form. If you turn it, you will see it glow.

You can do the same with a wooden carrier. In this case, pour cheap alcohol, such as cologne, onto the surface with the runes. It is better to pour runes into the burnt grooves themselves, but this is not always possible. And when you bring it to the fire, it will burn well. Ask the fire to fulfill your request. But again, don't burn the media.

In a lighter version, you can simply move a candle over the flame.

Activation by candles

Another option for activation by fire. You prepare and stipulate the runes, put candles on them, stipulate them again, light them, let them burn out. You can use round tea lights in ready-made metal mini-candlesticks. Select the number of candles according to numerology.

Rune activation ritual

Now we’ll find out how to properly activate a runic set. To do this, you first need to place objects on the table that will represent the elements of Earth, Fire, Air and Water. Accordingly, this will be a bowl of salt (coarse), a burning candle, incense and a vessel with water. All vessels must be thoroughly washed before the ritual. Use a new wax candle for the ritual, that is, pure energetically. As for incense and incense sticks, place them on a stand in a vertical position. The symbols of the elements should be arranged like this: in the far left corner of the table - Fire, in the far right - Air, in the near left - Earth, in the near right - Water. And the center of the table will be intended for a runic set. It must be new. Do not use other people's runes under any circumstances. They should only be yours.

To perform the ritual, make sure that there is no one in the room: no other people, no pets. Turn off your phone (or at least put it on silent mode). In general, it’s better to lock yourself in the room from the inside. So the ritual begins. It is necessary to recharge with the energy of all four elements. To do this, you need to touch each of the symbols in turn or light it (candle, incense). At the same time, say the phrase: “I call upon the elements (Earth, Fire, Air, Water) into this circle to help me.” Your words should come out loud and clear. Now it's time to place the Elder Futhark runes in the center of the table. Moreover, the layout should be like this: three rows of eight runes each. The first row in turn from left to right will look like this: Fehu, Uruz, Turisaz, Ansuz, Raido, Kenaz, Gebo, Vunyo. Second row: Hagalaz, Nautiz, Iza, Elvaz, Pertro, Algiz, Soulu. Third row: Tivaz, Berkano, Eyvaz, Manaz, Laguz, Ingvaz, Dagaz, Otala. But the Odin rune should be placed in the fourth row in the center, below the other runes.

Now you need to focus on the runes, look at them carefully. After this, the activation of all runes begins in turn, starting with Fehu. To do this, take a rune and say its name (you need to know them by heart). Then we lower it into a container with salt and at the same time say the words: “I activate the Fehu rune with the energy of the Earth Element!” We pronounce the same words (only with a change in the name of the element) when we hold the rune over the flame of a candle, when we bring it to the incense, when we splash water on it. Now we take the rune in our left hand and say: “The Fehu rune is activated by my breath! Fehu, become mine and help me!”, while blowing on her through his right hand, folded into a tube. The last step should be repeated three times. And only then can the rune be put into the bag. All the same actions are performed with the remaining runes, including the Odin rune, which lay at the very bottom. By the way, you can change the pronounced words. The main thing is that their meaning does not change.

Now press the bag with the runes to the sternum (heart), close your eyes and imagine that now you and the runes are one. It would also be nice to say “thank you” to the elements for their energy, for their help in implementing the ritual of activating the runes. You can extinguish a candle only with your fingers; extinguish incense with water. All items that took part in the ritual must be removed immediately. After such a ritual, the rune reader must mentally promise himself to use the runes according to all the rules, not to give or give away his set to anyone. Thus, you will betray your runic set. And this can be fraught.

The entire ritual involves several forces at once. That is, the runes are simultaneously activated by fire, water, air and earth, as well as the runes are activated by the breath of their owner. This is all very symbolic: all forces have gathered to help the rune reader. But he himself is directly involved in this. Now your hands are untied. Now you can work with runes. Now they are completely at your disposal.

Here are some tips that may come in handy during the ritual:

• It is better not to pour out and throw away the water and salt, but to take it to the forest. Just leave them under the tree.
• It may happen that the candle or incense has run out. In this case, simply install new ones. The main condition is that you cannot leave the room. Therefore, it is advisable to keep them at hand, for example, in the table.
• After the ritual, take the bag with runes to your bed (under your pillow) for a few more days. This way your “helpers” will absorb the energy.
• The ritual of activating runes cannot be performed if you are sick, feel unwell, are experiencing severe emotional stress, or are worried about something, or are nervous. It is better to activate the runes in complete calm and good state of mind and body.
• Some novice runeologists are interested in what time of day is best to perform the ritual. There is no fundamental difference here. But it’s stupid to spend it early in the morning when you haven’t woken up yet. The same applies to late evening, if your eyelids are literally “sticking together”.

Some authors and experienced rune scholars say that there is also activation of runes with blood (this can be included at the end of the ritual described above). The meaning of this action is the unity of a person with the runes. After all, blood is a symbol of kinship, close connection, sacred unity. Of course, whether to use this biological fluid or not is up to you. If you decide, you will need to injure one of the fingers and squeeze out a few drops of blood. Of course, there is no need to smear the runes with it. It is enough to hold them over the blood. However, not all rune experts recommend using blood. They think it's too theatrical and fake. Perhaps there is some truth in their words.

It is worth mentioning that there is no need to neglect the ritual of activating runes. This is not some useless fun. It's worth taking this seriously. It would be good to read more about the activation of runes in specialized literature. There are several types of rituals, but their essence and purpose is the same: to charge the runes with your own energy in order to feel them, so that they obey you and help you.

How to activate runes with the element of air

Activation by smoke is possible here (smoke is a symbol of air in this case). You need to take dry herbs, twigs or incense sticks and light them. Pass the carrier over the smoke and ask the element of air to activate the runes. Wormwood cigars (sometimes on sale) or rolled bunches of dry herbs are also suitable.

Herbs, of course, are best prepared in advance, during the season.

You can use certain herbs for certain jobs.

• Rose, rosehip - magic for love, for beauty
• Wormwood, thistle, juniper - the fight against evil spirits
• Clover, alfalfa - for well-being, good luck
• Ivan-tea - health of body and psyche
• Mint - calming
• Thyme - access to higher spheres

Activating runes with breath

Take a good amount of air into your lungs. Imagine the idea, what you put into your work, exhale on the photo, or first into your right palm, and then attach it to the photo. Easy to use to activate runes on the body.

Activating the talisman using the four elements

To begin with, you will need items that will personify the four natural elements:

1. Fire - wax candle;
2. Earth - salt (preferably coarse);
3. Water - a cup of clean, not boiled water;
4. Air is an incense stick.

To charge your rune amulet with elemental energy, place it in the middle of the table.

Arrange the remaining components clockwise in a certain sequence. Place a candle in the far left corner and an incense stick in the right corner. Place salt in the near left corner and water in the right corner.

Light a candle and an incense stick. Touch each symbol, calling on the powers of Fire, Earth, Water and Air for help. Take your amulet in your right hand and press it to your heart. Imagine that you have become one with him.

How to activate runes with earth elements

Everything is simple here, you must have a plate or vase with a substance that will symbolize the element earth. After slandering the runic carrier, pour it on him, saying that you are activating the runes with the earth element.

Here the land itself can be used. In this case, you can use energetically pure soil from a territory that does not belong to anyone, preferably from where, as they say, no human has set foot.

Or it could be salt, which is known to have powerful magical properties.

How to activate runes with the element water

It is very similar to earth activation, with the only difference being that you need to sprinkle water on the runic carrier.

My colleagues do not recommend taking holy water from the church; it has a slightly different purpose. I believe that if you feel strongly inspired to use it, there is nothing wrong with it, on the contrary, it can be beneficial in activating runes aimed at good deeds.

Perhaps the ideal option is to use clean spring water, or even better, the so-called “untapped” water, that is, taken from a spring or well so early in the morning that no one has ever taken it from there that morning. But at worst, tap water will do.

The soil, salt or water used for activation is not thrown into the trash or sewer. They are taken, again, to nature in a place where people and dogs will not walk on them.

How to activate runes with four elements

This option contains all 4 activation options. This is perhaps the most popular and widely publicized method.

This ritual is performed behind the altar. You can place a pentagram in the center, with one of the rays pointing at you. After all, you yourself are the fifth element, that is, spirit, ether, man.

The remaining rays of the pentagram point to objects symbolizing the elements. A candle will symbolize fire, a bowl of water will symbolize water, a bowl of earth or salt will symbolize the earth element, and an incense stick or dry herbs that you light will symbolize the air element.

However, there are several options for the arrangement of elemental symbols on the altar. I show some of them in the following pictures.

After you draw and spell out the runes, activate them with each element, as described above.

Despite the widespread use of the above activation method, there is no certainty at all that the ancient Scandinavians used something similar. Since the use of elements in magic is a completely different tradition, not related to the runic one. However, modern magicians manage to combine them.

Although, I repeat once again, some only need a reservation and close contact with the power of the runes. Others prefer serving the gods of the Scandinavian pantheon, and also practice magic happily.

General rules for making runes at home

Before you make runes yourself, you should familiarize yourself with simple but important rules so as not to confuse anything during the manufacturing process and not negate the result of your work.

1. Ask yourself: are you really ready to create your own set? Remember that these are not toys, so the rule “I’ll try, and if it doesn’t work, I’ll quit” does not apply here. If you start making runes, you must finish them.
2. Practice drawing runic symbols correctly, since it will be impossible to correct an erroneous drawing on a finished object (it doesn’t matter whether it’s stone, wood or paper). In addition, the runes may simply not want to work with such a “careless” master. If you think that instead of a damaged pebble you can simply take another one, then you are mistaken - you should not do this. Some runologists claim that if you don’t get one rune, then the whole set needs to be redone.
3. Do not start making your own runic set if you are sick or in a bad mood. Remember that creating runes is not so much technical as it is energetic work, so you should feel good and have a decent amount of energy.
4. Choose the right material for the set: it should be pleasant to you personally. The most popular runes are made of wood and stone, but paper is also quite suitable for the first experiment. There are also craftsmen who make runes from polymer clay, leather, and wax.
5. Take your time! Do not set yourself the goal of making the entire set in a few hours; it is better to try to make the runes with your own hands step by step, without haste, because only this approach will be the most fruitful. This is a magical work, not a conveyor belt!
6. Before drawing a rune directly on the material, hold all the blanks in your hands, look at them and try to feel which one is most suitable for this symbol. Do this with each rune.
7. Remember that all vertical lines of the symbol should be drawn from top to bottom, and not vice versa, and diagonal and oblique lines should be drawn from left to right.
8. While drawing an image of a rune, think about it, about its meaning, say its name out loud or silently - by doing this you will attract its energy to you and tune in to contact with it.
9. Don't ask anyone for help! If you cannot make your own runes, then it is better to just buy a ready-made set in the store and charge it. Making your own set is an individual process, not a collective one, so you shouldn’t involve an outsider in working on it, even if he is a divine artist or a wood carver.

How to make runes at home from wood

Wooden runes are considered the most popular, since this material is closest to nature. Those who have chosen wood for work immediately wonder which species is best suited for a runic set. The correct answer is any! Focus on your own feelings, compare several different breeds, touch them, try to feel them. However, some runologists believe that a set made from the tree that originally grows in your area, and not imported from other countries, will work best. For Russia, these are birch, oak, elm, larch, maple, spruce, pine, willow and others.

If you have decided on the material, it’s time to figure out how to make runes from wood with your own hands.

1. Make wooden blanks. They usually look like rectangular or oval dies of the same size in the amount of 25 pieces (24 Elder Futhark runes and one empty Odin rune). You can make them using a wood cutter.
2. You can apply images of runes to blanks in several ways: cut them out with a chisel, burn them with a wood burning machine, or simply paint them with paint, or, as some craftsmen advise, with your own blood. Some people combine the two methods, such as cutting and painting.
3. The finished rune can be sanded with sandpaper and varnished if desired. If you like colored runes, you can paint the wooden blanks before drawing the symbols.

How to make runes with your own hands from stone

Stone is the second most popular material after wood. Most often, pebbles collected from the shore of a reservoir or natural stones are used to create your own set. If pebbles can be easily selected by size, then with natural stones the situation is more complicated, so you will have to spend a lot of time finding pebbles of the right size.

It is recommended to collect pebbles early in the morning in a secluded place, for example, on a sandbank or in a deserted corner of an old park near a pond. Under no circumstances should you pick up stones near cemeteries, on the ruins of buildings, or on roads - such materials are saturated with negative energy, so they are not suitable for work.

And now about how to properly make runes from stone:

1. Rinse all stones under running water and let them dry on their own.
2. Prepare the surface of the stone for drawing. To do this, you need to cover the stones with transparent varnish and let it dry. If you want the runes to be colored, use an oil-based colored varnish.
3. After the varnish has dried, you can draw a symbol on the stone. It is better to do this with enamel paint - it is more durable.
4. When the enamel has dried (after about a day), cover each rune with another layer of clear varnish. After the paint has dried, the set can be charged and used!

How to make a runic set from paper

Those who are wondering how to make runes from paper with their own hands are the luckiest, because this method takes a minimum of time. But it is worth considering that a paper or cardboard set will not last you long, so such runes are suitable only as a first experiment and for those who are not sure that they will practice runic magic constantly.

The algorithm for creating paper runes is simple: rectangles are cut out from thick paper or cardboard of the same size, after which runic symbols are applied to them with paint, a marker or your own blood (there are those who prefer this method). The paper set can then be laminated to make it last longer.

Making runes from bone, clay and other materials

If you are thinking about how to make runes at home, but paper, stone and wood do not appeal to you, try turning to other materials. Don’t listen to those who claim that only wooden and stone runes will work - all this is nonsense! In fact, your energetic connection with the runic symbols is important, and what material they will be made of is the tenth thing. The main thing is that you like them and feel them.

So, if you didn’t go with the classics and decided to choose a different material, pay attention to the following options:

• bone
• leather
• metal
• polymer clay
• salty dough

The technology for making runes from bone, metal and leather is, in principle, similar to wood and stone: first you need to cut out the blanks with a suitable tool, and then apply runic symbols to them. Working with polymer clay and salt dough is generally simple: the blanks are formed by hand, after which they are baked in the oven, then they can be painted with colorless varnish and, after drying, symbols can be applied to the prepared surface.

How to charge homemade runes

In fact, you need to charge a ready-made runic set purchased in a store. Even during the process of creation, homemade runes are saturated with your energy, so all you need is to leave the finished set laid out on a white cloth for literally a day, after which you can start working.

But, if you are the type of person who definitely needs some kind of ritual, you can use recharging with the help of elemental energy. The methods of such activation are different, and each runologist performs this ritual in his own way. The main thing is to use elements that correspond to the elements, for example, an incense stick or incense for air, water for water, a candle for fire, salt for earth. Carry the runes through the smoke from the incense, over a candle, sprinkle with water and hold in salt, while mentally or out loud turning to the desired element and asking it for help. You can come up with your own ritual - this is allowed in runic magic.

Other activation methods

Contact method

Is traditional. It lies in the fact that the bearer of the runes must have direct physical contact with the person for whom it is made, or with the objects that he possesses.

For example, they use a trace, a footprint of the “right person”, to which they apply runes, and this activates it. Or they simply give the person to hold and lick the amulet. Or they put a piece of clothing that the person used, his hair, a nail, etc. on the photograph. Then they activate one of the elements, four elements, or something else.

Activation by visualization

Suitable both as part of activation with the help of the elements, and as an independent option. Accordingly, you need to very accurately imagine the result you want to achieve. You can imagine the action of each rune separately, and their overall result.

For example, how an energy vampire gets his dirt back and drowns in it. Or, if you are protecting someone, how the effects bounce off of them, and maybe how the runes direct the blow to their enemies.

Activation by meditation

You meditate on a rune, formula or becoming, and imagine how it changes your life, what happens under its influence. You trust this flow of power , as if you dissolve in it, and then you yourself follow the images that this energy creates.

Another option is that you need to connect to the desired symbol and pass its energy through yourself.

An important nuance when working with runes is making a sacrifice

Sometimes runes work, as they say, on personal strength. However, many of my colleagues write that in case of solving serious problems, it is advisable to make a sacrifice to runic powersif your runes worked successfully.

If you accept the patronage of the Scandinavian gods, then you can go to a place that is symbolically associated with one or another god, and bring him gifts that are also symbolically associated with this god.

At the same time, you should feel sincere gratitude , and your gift should have a certain value for yourself. On you, God, what doesn’t suit me won’t work here.
