Slavic god Svarog
Svarog, the god of the primordial heavenly fire, was considered by the Slavs to be one of the deities who created the earth. According to legend, Svarog struck the magical stone Alatyr with his supernatural hammer, after which gods and heroes (ratichi, heavenly warriors) were born from the sparks that appeared.
Svarog was revered as the patron saint of creation and creativity, the god of blacksmiths and creators, as well as the ruler of families and wedding unions.
According to legend, it was Svarog who gave people what was necessary for life:
- fire and sunlight;
- tools for cultivating the land (plow, yoke);
- iron weapons;
- and also taught how to make cheese and cottage cheese from milk.
His sacred amulet, called Svarozhich, personified the heavenly gifts and the great power of the god Svarog.
How to make an amulet with your own hands?
Most often, the Svarozhich amulet was made by our distant ancestors from metal or wood. These traditions have survived unchanged to the present day. The following types of wood are perfect for creating a talisman:
- ash;
- pine;
- maple;
- oak;
- birch.
Attention! The finished sacred symbol is coated with beeswax or impregnated with a special oil, which emphasizes the texture of the product and does not spoil its natural color. But it is better to avoid using varnish, since it blocks the access to fresh energy.
The next popular material is considered to be metal. Suitable for creating a talisman:
- silver;
- gold;
- lead;
- iron;
- copper.
We recommend: Powerful symbol Solar Cross: what is the meaning of the amulet, who is it suitable for and how to charge it?
It is not recommended to use metal alloys, since talismans cast in this way will have virtually no power.
The embroidered amulet Svarozhich is also often found both among our ancestors and in modern society. Sacred symbols are applied to bedding, clothing, towels and other household items. When embroidering a talisman, certain rules should be followed:
- do not use synthetic materials;
- fasten the threads to the canvas without using knots;
- amulets are not embroidered for oneself personally or to order, only gifted symbols have power;
- in the process of work, all thoughts should endlessly be directed to the one for whom this thing is being embroidered.
Be sure to follow the lunar calendar when embroidering a talisman: create protective symbols for a child in the first quarter of the moon, for an adult in the second or third.
What does the sign look like?
This symbol was dedicated not only to the god Svarog himself, but also through him the power of all his children (also Svarozhichi) emanated.
The amulet has a shape close to a square and contains twelve rays directed in different directions.
The rays are located strictly symmetrically, mirror-like, which symbolizes world balance and balance of power in the Universe.
The lines are directed sideways to each other, which is typical for solar or swastika signs; in this case, they schematically depict special sticks - tools with which the ancient Slavs made fire.
Origin story
The mysterious pagan deity raises many questions among researchers. Most of the misunderstandings and misconceptions arose because of the man's name. Svarozhich is often confused with Svarog, the supreme god of Ancient Rus'.
Svarog
Svarozhich is endowed with somewhat mundane properties. The man became the personification of fire and the embodiment of his own father on Earth. Due to such a close connection between the two deities, it is impossible to find out the origins of the cult of Svarozhich.
It is known that the god of fire enjoyed special respect among representatives of the Baltic and Eastern Slavs. The idol of the patron of the flame was installed in the city of Radogost (in another source - Ridigost). The sanctuary was distinguished by its enormous size and richness of decorations. People came to the temple to ask God to heal the sick, protect them in war, or suggest a way out of a difficult situation:
“The main one is called Svarozhich, all pagans respect and honor him more than the others.”
Svarozhich
With the advent of Christianity, the worship of fire faded into the background, but did not disappear completely. For several centuries, offerings were made to Svarozhich, and the fire was endowed with mystical properties. However, some rituals are in demand to this day. True, the main meaning of magical actions has been lost and has given way to a habit passed on from parents to children.
Double amulet
The practice of using a double amulet - Svarozhich-Rodimich - is very interesting. The fact is that Rodimich is a mirror image of Svarozhich, only dedicated to the god Rod .
The main meaning of such a talisman is that its meaning changed depending on which side the symbol was turned.
Thus, the side depicting him as Rodimich was considered a talisman only for men; it was usually presented to the eldest owner in the house, or, conversely, to one of the younger sons. It was believed that such a symbol gives self-confidence, calmness and poise. Warriors also wore it.
Among the early Slavs, only the oldest man in the family was allowed to wear this sign - this was how his wisdom, strength and authority were emphasized.
Svarozhich, the other side of such a talisman, gave an incentive to move forward, gave a life-giving “spark,” and gave inspiration for creativity and exploits.
When combined, both of these symbols signified unity and harmony, protection and strength of character. The second meaning is the connection of the clan, the memory of descendants about their ancestors. The two signs complement each other, allowing them to first accumulate energy and then competently implement it in creativity and respectable actions.
Image of the Svarozhich sign
The Svarozhich symbol in mirror image forms the Rodimich sign.
Often craftsmen make double-sided amulets Svarozhich-Rodimich. The four rays of the Svarozhich sign resemble tongues of fire. They are associated with Heavenly and Earthly fire. Each ray of the Svarozhich symbol seems to rotate itself, gradually turning into a swastika. This pattern shows the family ties between the Slavic Gods and their relationship with people.

What power does it have for men and women?
Unlike Rodimich, Svarozhich can be worn by both men and women, regardless of age, especially if they lead a righteous and just lifestyle.
Our ancestors believed that such a talisman helps only those who do good deeds - one should not expect help from it in dishonest or dark deeds. Moreover, it was believed that punishment from the formidable god in this case would follow without delay.
Symbol meaning
Svarozhich was not only a symbol of the fire of God Svarog, which gives the protection of the God of the Family himself and brings good luck. It was also believed that the amulet protected from the influences of the dark world, while burning away all evil and transforming negative energy into positive energy. Among the Slavs, the amulet served to connect all generations, starting from the Gods themselves. After all, the sons of God Svarog were called Svarozhichi, and the Slavs considered themselves their sons.
The amulet makes a person wiser, protecting him from hasty decisions and actions. But this is not all the positive properties of the amulet. It protects from danger, helps to establish relationships with others, reveal all talents, set its owner up for positivity, and help choose the right path in life. Despite all the listed properties, the main tasks of the amulet remain the connection of childbirth and the revelation of one’s divine essence.
How to wear?
There are certain rules for wearing an amulet:
- the most powerful talismans are made by hand, but this is not a mandatory requirement; you can also use a purchased amulet;
- suitable materials for making Svarozhich are wood and metal; in no case should you use bone or leather, as well as synthetic materials;
- the amulet is worn either on a chain made of the same metal, or on a cord or dense thread made of natural material;
- The Svarozhich talisman is worn only after the ceremony of its purification and dedication to the gods has been completed.
Svarozhich can be worn together with other amulets made from the skin, teeth or bones of animals, but only on the condition that the animal died in a fair fight with a person (it was killed with bare hands or a bladed weapon, but in no case was shot).
Store the amulet separately from jewelry or souvenirs, in a specially designated place, otherwise it may lose its magical power.
How to clean a Slavic amulet
The amulet is always cleaned before being put on. But even during wear, the amulet can become contaminated with physical or energetic dirt. Dust and darkening can be cleaned with water, but energetic dirt should be destroyed with the help of all elemental elements.
After you have cleaned the amulet from dust and dirt, you need to do the following:
- Bury the amulet in the ground overnight. This can be done at home using a flower pot.
- You can keep the artifact in salt for a day, and then wash off the salt in the bathroom under the tap.
- After this, you need to keep the amulet in running water for a couple of hours. It could be a stream, a river or a water tap: the main thing is that the water flows.
- Carry the amulet three times over the flame of fire. This is necessary so that the emanations of fire burn out the emanations of negativity. It is best to light a small fire for these purposes, but if you carry the artifact over a lit candle (wax), then this is also acceptable.
- At the end, you can fumigate the artifact with the smoke of herbs: sage, wormwood, pine or incense.
After this, the amulet is considered cleansed and ready for protection. If the amulet is not cleaned, it may fail due to accumulated negative energy (evil eye, curse or damage), and simply will not be able to perform its functions. There are times when an artifact cracks or bursts, or may unexpectedly get lost.
All this suggests that he took on a very large portion of negative energy intended for you and went out of order. Such an artifact should be burned (if made of wood) or melted down (if made of metal). But you can no longer wear it as a protector.
Cleaning and activating the amulet
Before putting it on for the first time, the amulet must be cleaned and charged with energy, otherwise it will not be able to work at full strength. To clean, do the following :
- Take a container filled with running water from a stream or river (preferably a natural source and not tap water).
- Throw a few crystals of sea or table salt into a bowl of water.
- Mentally turn to the gods with a request to clean the talisman and lower it into the water.
- Depending on the material from which the amulet is made, you can keep it in water from an hour to a day.
- Remove the amulet from the water and wipe with a clean white cloth.
After this, you can begin to charge the talisman with energy - to do this at night or at dusk, you need to go into the forest, find the largest tree and bury Svarozhich under its stones. At the same time, they offer the god Svarog's requirement - usually kvass or beer. After a few hours, you can take out the amulet and, as a final step, pass it over the candle flame several times.
Svarozhich is a strong talisman that helps its owner gain inner fortitude, courage and can help cope with difficult situations in which the right decision must be made. This is a universal amulet, equally suitable for people of different ages and professions.
Myths and legends
The great god Svarog was famous among his relatives for his kindness and mercy. With the onset of the first cold weather, the blacksmith god noticed how cold people on Earth were. Taking pity on his own children, Svarog threw lightning down, which hit a branchy oak tree. People who saw the flame for the first time immediately realized the value of the divine gift.
Each person took a branch, which he took to his own house. Having lowered the fire into a kind of hearth, the Slavs gathered around an unknown phenomenon. So Svarozhich, the son of Svarog, the god of fire, settled in houses in Rus'.
Dazhdbog
However, there is a legend that the ancestor of the deity personifying fire was not the blacksmith god, but his son. Dazhdbog, who every day took a walk in a solar chariot, took pity on the suffering people and gave humanity a spark.
Whoever sent the flame to earth gave hope to humanity. Since then, fire has become a sacred phenomenon. The ancients believed that the heat from fire was endowed with healing properties, so a sick person was placed next to the hearth.
After the appearance of the magical flame, the life of the Slavs became easier. Warming up in the middle of winter, villagers learned to use fire for fishing, not forgetting to pay respect to the deity.
Ancient Slavs dancing around the fire
The calm life changed with the arrival of spring. A flood hit the Earth. During 6 days of incessant rain, all the fire that warmed and protected the houses of the Slavs went out. Panic gripped the people. Only the elder, appointed by the Slavs to the role of chief priest of Svarozhich, remained calm.
An elderly man said that rain is a test that Svarog sent on people. But good Svarozhich will not abandon his own charges. The old man said that an attractive fair-haired young man came to him in a dream. The young man rode a red horse and held a spear in his hand. The hero told the old man how to return fire to the life of the Slavs. To do this, residents of Rus' need to grind dry grass and birch bark with a wooden peg.
Feast in Rus'
After exhausting friction, the fire began to flare up again in the priest’s hands. Since then, the Russians have vowed not to part with the wonderful flame. People built new sanctuaries glorifying Svarozhich, and began to worship the young man with great zeal, who again gave joy and warmth.
Soon Svarozhich had his own name day. On this day, the inhabitants of Rus' heated the barn (the room in which grain was stored) and made a sacrifice - they threw freshly cut oats into the fire. After the offering to God, the Russians arranged a lavish feast, glorifying their own savior and patron.
Amulet of the Slavs Rodimich-Svarozhich
Double talismans are often found. In this case, different sacred symbols are depicted on wood or metal on both sides. This results in the artifact's power being doubled, and if the images are resonant with each other, the meaning is multiplied. The double amulet Rodimich-Svarozhich has such special power. This amulet is most powerful if it is made of silver. It is often made in the form of a pendant.
The Svarozhich symbol strengthens the spirit, protects from adversity, and “burns” obstacles along the way. The Rodimich sign provides a connection with the Family and ancestors, protects against dishonor, injustice, and despondency. This symbol also protected against the curses of enemies and the actions of sorcerers on the battlefield, so it was especially needed by warriors.
True, Rod did not support, according to the beliefs of his ancestors, cruel or dishonest people. Today, the design of heavenly fire is also useless for deceitful, aggressive, mercantile individuals, and the history of the 20th century clearly demonstrates that solar symbols do not help invaders, as well as those who trample on human dignity.
Combining the influences of these two most powerful sacred images gives a flow of light energy and the support of Svarog. In this double amulet, personal spiritual power is strengthened by the energy of ancestors, gods and nature. For men, the image of a fire sign on the hand or next to the heart bestows courage, bravery, as well as wisdom and fidelity to the chosen path. For women, such a talisman primarily shows a connection with the family, promotes childbirth, adds health, patience, and longevity.
Prayers to Semarglu and praises
Our ancestors honored them by offering praises to the gods and, bringing them gifts, performed rituals. It is also known that in ancient times oaths and vows were given in the names of gods.
Prayer is the words we say to the deity, honoring him and bringing glory to him. Our ancestors never asked anything from the gods, namely, they showed true respect, as we do to the elders in the family. Through prayer we form special sound vibrations that help the Soul to come into contact with the divine power that we glorify. One way or another, you can honor the gods by simply turning to the depths of your consciousness, from where the radiance of divine light comes.
There are various options for prayers of praise to the god Semargl.
The hymn-glorification presented below is an appeal to the healing power of the Fire God:
“Semargl Svarozhich Great Firebozhich! Sleep away the pain and illness. Cleanse the womb! For the children of people, for every creature9, for old and young - You are God’s delight!”
You can create your own praise prayer, but it is important that it comes from the very heart, from the Soul, with sincere intentions of Love and goodness. I offer the following options for prayers and praises to Svarozhich (for healing):
“Fiery Semargl - Svarozh’s power! My Path is illuminated by Your radiance! With an ardent cleansing fire, burn the overwhelming illness to ashes!”
And the following for support on the Path of attaining the Truth:
“The Seven-Flamed Torch is the Soul of the Universe! Semargl Svarozhich - the power of Knowledge! Your fiery Ray will shine in Svarga! And the Path will deliver you from the darkness of the Comprehension of Truth!”
