The symbol of the Family among the Slavs - the meaning of an ancient amulet

In the beginning there was emptiness. In timelessness and silence there was a golden egg where, for the time being, great power lay dormant. One day the shell cracked and the god Rod came out of the egg and created the universe. Many legends and myths speak about this. Legends about the creation of the world are recorded in the books of Veles and Kolyada.

An excerpt from Kolyada’s book dedicated to the creation of the world.

After the creation of the universe, Rod gave rise to Svarog and Lada. Svarog, the keeper of heavenly fire, created the firmament of the earth and the first Gods. Lada became the mother of the gods (one of the women giving birth) and is revered as a heavenly mother.

God Rod in the Slavic pantheon

The Creator of the universe occupied the main place in the pantheon of gods among the Slavs. He was revered as the primary source of everything on earth. It was Rod who created light, darkness, the first gods. From his name come many words meaning life in all its manifestations: nature, childbirth, relatives, parents and others.

The creator of the universe has other names: Vyshny, Belobog, Sventovid. At the same time, Sventovid has several variations in spelling and pronunciation: Svyatovit, Svetich, Sventovit, which translated from Old Church Slavonic means “knight of light.”

Rod created the world from the body and thoughts, before that there was emptiness.

The genus is the forefather and creator of all Gods, where the closer God is to the creator, the more power he has.

The image of the Family exists in every culture and religion, despite the different names of each people and in each source, God is one and appears in many images. In every legend about the creation of the world there is a place for the creation of the world from the body and soul of the first god.

Even after the baptism of Rus', Christians for a long time revered the first god and women in labor.

The Appearance of the Great Creator

Our ancestors believed that God Rod created all life on earth. Among the Slavs, he was the source of everything, as they say, “the cause of all causes.” Before his appearance, there was absolutely nothing except a large World Egg. The egg itself has always existed, but it was neither light nor dark, neither soft nor hard.

But one day something went wrong inside this desert world. In an instant, the god Rod appeared out of nowhere. With his arrival, the Universe came to life - it ceased to be nothing. And yet, around the great Creator there was only complete darkness and emptiness. He quickly became bored with such a landscape, and therefore he decided to rebuild the world for himself.

Children of Rod

After creation, the world was not structured and ordered; the first gods were born to preserve and control the world. Svarog created the earth and also divided the worlds into upper, middle and lower. In the upper one live the Gods - Rule, in the middle (obvious) visible life is concentrated, and the lower one is connected with history, the dead live there.

The Creator of the universe had no gender; he divided people and gods into men and women. His son - Svarog, and daughter - Lada are images of the two sides of the Almighty.

Svarog created the earth and space, created the first Svarozhichi. Lada is the mother of the first gods, and therefore of humanity.

Svarog contains strength, wisdom, and Lada contains the energy of creation and the birth of new life. It is the connecting male and female essence that gives new life. Lada the Mother of God became the wife of Svarog and the patroness of all women.

Given the destruction of Slavic culture over the years, more precise provisions about the origin of the ancient gods have not been preserved.

The birth of everything

First of all, God Rod divided heaven and earth, light and darkness. He created countless stars to illuminate his work. Then he set to work on the ground. The clan raised mountains, shed seas and oceans, planted trees and herbs, and also gave life to many animals and fish. His creation was beautiful, but still something was missing from it. Then Rod decided to create other gods to help him.

The first to emerge from the breath of the Creator was the goddess Lada (in some sources it is referred to as the bird Sva). She was the embodiment of his will and subsequently became the patroness of all living and good things on earth. Following her, the god Svarog, the great blacksmith and ruler of the world, was born. It was he who created the great chain that bound the entire universe together, and also gave birth to the gods of the second generation. And only then did people appear on earth who were the weakest of all.

In the end, Rod decided to streamline his creation. He divided the Universe into three parts: the world of gods - Rule, the world of people - Reality, and the world of spirits - Nav. Also, the god Rod drew a parallel that separated Truth from Falsehood. Thanks to this, good and evil, truth and lies, love and hatred appeared - everything that makes us human.

The meaning of the symbolism of the Family

The Slavic amulet family has several symbols. The first two are swastika symbols of the genus; in one, the rays are directed in the direction of the sun (soling) and is a male amulet. The mirror symbol has rays twisted against the direction of the sanctuary (anti-salt) - the amulet is intended for women.

The rays of the sign are located along the direction of the sun, which means the amulet is intended for men.

Alatyr - an eight-pointed star - is a symbol of the Family. Has powerful strength. Used to protect the family from the evil eye and damage, and from diseases. Suitable for protecting children. The Alatyr symbol contains the memory of family, traditions and culture.

The Peace Tree sign helps to give birth to healthy children and preserve traditions. Used in wood carving (home decoration), embroidered or knitted on clothing and interior items. Used as a talisman in the form of pendants, leather bracelets, images on a ring or chain.

The Slavic amulet genus is used as a connection with the creator through which a person can turn to God or to the souls of deceased ancestors. Any of the signs or attributes of God can serve as a family amulet.

History / legend of the amulet

Sign Symbol of the Family
The symbol refers to the designation of the deity of the Family revered by the ancestors. He was considered the supreme god of the Slavs. Admirers did not even dare to pray or make sacrifices to him, he was so omnipotent and powerful. Idols and images of God himself are not found in history, but his sign is a frequent occurrence in Slavic life.

Is it worth mentioning that evil spirits and evil demons fled only at a fleeting mention of Rod. That is why, in order to scare away ill-wishers and to attract success and prosperity, symbols began to appear on interior items in the home of our ancestors.

Reverence and respect for the Family itself was expressed through the observance of family traditions and values.

Who is suitable for the sign of the god of the genus

Creation of the world
The amulet sign of the god Rod was originally without the swastika symbol. The filled circle represented the sun; later, an image of 4 twisted rays with small circles at the ends was added to the center. The curves are turned inward. This symbol denotes the continuity of time and the close connection of the past, present and future.

The gender sign consists only of smooth lines and cannot contain sharp corners. The amulet contains creative energy. He is the keeper of family knowledge and traditions.

The clan amulet is suitable for men (salting) and women (anti-salting). You can use a double-sided amulet.

Great peace

It should be noted that the Slavic god Rod is not the ruler of the whole world. He just created it. After this, the reins of power passed to Svarog, and then to Perun. Rod himself remained aloof from what was happening. At the same time, there are two versions that explain this behavior of a single Creator:

  • The first says that the Rod has dissolved in its creation. Every time God brought something new into the world, he gave a part of himself in return. Thus he became everything and at the same time nothing.
  • The second version is more down to earth. According to her, Rod was very tired from hard work and simply retired. Instead of ruling, he decided to observe everything from the side, only occasionally interfering in the affairs of gods and people.

The power of the amulet “sign of the Family”

The magical sign of the genus has powerful magical energy. By constantly wearing a talisman, a person receives a strong connection with his roots.

The Rod symbol is not just a decoration, it is a strong talisman that influences life; along with the memory of generations, a person receives:

  • clan fortress;
  • protection from human evil and dark forces;
  • well-being and prosperity;
  • good luck in good deeds;
  • Confidence in your strength.

For men, the talisman, a symbol of the family, influences the strength of spirit and resistance to adverse external factors.

A woman under the protection of a protective sign becomes more flexible and soft in character.

It is better to use a personal amulet with the symbol of the Family in the form of a pendant, ring or embroidery.

Recommendations for lovers of ancient symbols

Amulet of the family

Before buying a talisman, a person needs to think about whether he is ready to lead a correct life and show respect to loved ones. Even if the owner of the talisman begins to repent after committing rash, stupid acts, he can still be punished for what he did.

There are no restrictions on the use of the talisman, which is why it can be seen both in children and young men and girls. Tattoos depicting the symbol are popular. Applying a sign to the body is a very important undertaking, since the symbol will be with its owner throughout his life. You can use temporary tattoos that wash off after a specified period of time.

The amulet Symbol of the Family is considered universal, since the talisman’s energy reserve is very large. That is why he copes with almost any problem that arises. Only those whose life principles are kindness, sincerity and love for loved ones should carry an amulet.

How to make a talisman yourself?

In the modern world, it is not difficult to buy any amulet, but an amulet with a family sign made by strangers has no power. The body talisman should be made by family members.

The best material for creating Slavic amulets is wood. Easy to process and accessible to everyone.

You can make a talisman for your home yourself. Wood (oak or birch), silver, semi-precious stones, clay are suitable for this; embroidered paintings using the image of the sign will also have great power.

All the same materials are suitable for making a body amulet.

Several rules for making a family amulet:

  • It is better to make the gender sign end-to-end, this way the energy will be redistributed correctly.
  • If the amulet is made of wood, birch is suitable for a female talisman, and oak wood is suitable for a man.
  • You should make amulets in good health and mood.

When making a talisman for a family, the sign can be applied to almost any household item, carved on a wooden house, embroidered on a painting or pillow.

The main thing is to love your family and believe in the power of the sign depicted, and then the amulet will be beneficial. If a person is inclined to commit dishonest acts and betrayal, it is better to refuse to wear this sign.

When making a talisman, the family sign is placed in a circle, which symbolizes the continuity of traditions from generation to generation and protection from outside influence.

After making (purchasing), the talisman should be charged.

Self-execution

Before creating such an amulet, you need to remember that it cannot be made of brass and bronze. These metals are not considered energy-intensive and cannot reflect the energy of the power of the Rod. Therefore, it is best to create this symbol from gold or silver . Silver is preferable because it naturally retains energy.

  1. If you know how to handle wood cutting well, then it is better to use this option, however, remember about gender characteristics.
The conditions under which the amulet will work is to carry it through. That is, so that all the outlines are completely repeated on both sides. Remember . When creating any amulet with your own hands, you need to be in a good mood and put positive meaning into it.
  2. At home, wood burning is the best method.
This technique is quite simple to perform and has a number of advantages. To do this, you need to take a piece of wood (these are often sold in handicraft stores) and the burning device itself. Prepare a drawing of the symbol in advance and transfer it using paper to a board. After this, simply outline the drawing with a special wood cutter. This technique is called pyrography. Don’t forget to apply a similar design on the reverse side, in a mirror form.
  3. A great tree can also be a symbol of the clan. Most often this is a circle in which a wire tree is placed. But such an amulet is worn more as a decoration than retaining its true meaning.

How to activate the gender symbol

Earth, water, fire and air give the amulet strength and cleanse it of negative energy.
Creating an amulet is not always possible on your own; it is much easier to order it in an online store or buy it at a crafts fair. However, there is one peculiarity. During production, all talismans “absorb” the energy of the master.

In order for the amulet to serve you, you need to remove other people’s energy from it. This especially applies to generic symbols.

Salt, earth, running water, fire and wind are suitable for cleansing. In the case of cleansing Slavic amulets, it is better to use the power of nature.

Important. The process of cleansing with 4 elements: earth, water, fire and air is at the same time charging (activating) the amulet.

It is better to perform the ritual alone without assistants or prying eyes.

Ideally, go out into nature, preferably a sunny clearing in the forest. Bury the amulet in the ground and leave it for three days. After this, rinse in cold (or running) water, hold over the flame of a fire (or candle) and place it there. So that the wind blows around the talisman.

If you can’t go out into nature, you can improvise. Instead of forest soil, soil from a pot with a flower or salt will do; you can rinse it under the tap and place it near an open window in the wind.

How to wear an amulet correctly?

For the amulet to be fully effective, it must be double-sided . On one side, the symbols are located in the same direction as the movement of the sun, or posolon, on the other side - opposite to the movement of the sun, or protivosolon.

Depending on the position of the symbols, the amulet will act differently:

  1. Rays that rotate in the same direction as the sun carry solar energy. If the salting is external, then the amulet acts as a kind of shield, reflecting all the negativity directed at its owner. By contacting this side with the human body, the amulet will give him flexibility and instill peace and harmony in his soul.
  2. Symbols deployed opposite to the movement of the sun help develop femininity and magical abilities. If the sign is directed outward, then its effect will be the opposite: it will help to avoid negative influences, will not allow one to feel pity and make unwanted concessions, and will give its owner confidence and strength.

Women wear the amulet with salting outward and anti-salting towards themselves, men vice versa.

If a woman is raising children alone and has no immediate relatives, then she can also wear the symbol of the Family as a counter-salt to others. Also, this way of wearing a talisman will help strengthen the connection with your husband’s relatives. A man, wearing the amulet with salt on the outside, will gain flexibility and diplomacy , and will also be able to create a stronger connection with his wife’s in-laws.

Important! The sign of the god Rod can be worn by all people. But young children do not yet realize their duty to their family. Therefore, their connection with the amulet will not be as strong as that of adults.

Symbolism and amulets

First of all, Rod is associated with the great oak tree. According to myths, at the beginning of time the Creator planted a sacred acorn in the ground, which sprouted and turned into a huge tree. Its roots went straight to the Underground Kingdom - Nav, the trunk was a support for the world of people, and a huge crown adorned the sky, supporting the Rule. Thus, the oak became a reminder of the power and wisdom of the Creator, who unites all three kingdoms.

Another symbol of the god Rod is the swastika. It consists of four rays, and differs from the fascist one in that it has a smoother, rounded shape. Its meaning has been lost over the years. However, some scientists dared to suggest that it testifies to the universal essence of the Family - its limitless and incomprehensible power. There is also an opinion that the swastika is a symbol of the sun and reminds us that the creator gave people the first light.

It was these two signs that were used to create amulets and pentagrams. Most often they were resorted to when a family could not have a child for a long time and needed the blessing of Rod. They also sought the support of this god in case of illness of the baby - the parents asked the great Creator to take care of their child and strengthen his health.

Rites and Worship

Let's start with the fact that the Slavs did not erect regular temples or mounds in honor of Rod. At least there is no reliable information about this. If necessary, they erected a temporary structure that personified the deity. Otherwise, our ancestors made do with a large fire, which symbolized the primordial power of creation.

It is traditionally believed that the day of the god Rod falls on December 31 (new style). On this day, the Slavs held festive feasts at which they praised the great Creator. According to legends, the house was decorated with fir branches, and various sweets were hung on them. The holiday itself was called Shchedrets.

Another festivities in honor of the god Rod were held in the fall, at the end of September. This is a special period for the common people - the entire harvest has already been harvested, which means it’s time to rest. All rituals associated with this holiday were held in the forest, near a large oak tree. These days, the Slavs asked God for protection, but not for themselves, but for the whole nation.

God's Form

Rod is different from other gods - he does not have a specific appearance. He is the embodiment of everything, the whole world, and not just one individual. That is why mounds and idols were rarely erected in his honor. After all, one could pray to Rod anywhere; the whole earth was his home.

Nevertheless, there are several legends about how God appeared in the human world, in the form of a gray-haired sage. However, these stories should not be taken as a hint at the true appearance of Rod. In this case, the deity simply took on the appearance familiar to the human eye. In addition, the Slavs believed that Rod quite often visits our world in the form of a stork. In particular, it was because of this belief that the legend arose that these birds bring babies to people, placing them on the threshold of their houses.
