There are many legends about brownies and brownies, both positive ones, which make you want to laugh and smile while listening to them, and negative and even mystical ones, which literally make your blood run cold. A brownie can attract good luck, make a family happy and protect it from many troubles if the residents have a good attitude. At the same time, higher powers can make existence extremely difficult if the brownie doesn’t like something. Previously, the brownie amulet was always present in the house among Slavic families. It was performed according to a special ritual and was considered a guardian of the home.
Now the brownie amulet, of course, is not used so often. It can only be found in the home of those who are responsible for the world of esotericism. But the passion for motanka dolls, which look beautiful and attract attention, has also become fashionable. Among them there are brownies, people buying them simply want to decorate the interior. And without knowing it, they bring something new into their lives that affects their destiny.
Brownie doll - a talisman or just a piece of furniture
As mentioned above, amulets are now often chosen by people who are completely ignorant in the world of magic. They are given amulets as gifts or they themselves buy beautiful dolls at fairs. A significant story that happened several years ago and perfectly demonstrates how an ordinary household talisman can determine human destiny.
Girls strive to decorate the interior of their home in every possible way with the help of unusual things. This happened that time too - the girl simply bought a stylish brownie doll from the salon of hand-made things that are popular nowadays. Not fitting into the design, the doll went to the mezzanine, where it collected dust for several long years. During this time, a number of negative changes occurred: my husband left, I was laid off from my job, and I had two surgeries. It would seem that misfortunes come from everywhere and the black streak will never end. Only a few days later the source of the problems was found - the brownie doll, having forgotten on the mezzanine, began to take revenge on the owner. Having pulled it out, performed a sacred ritual, and placed it in the required place, she began to act completely differently. The brownie helped resolve the problems in just a few days. Therefore, do not underestimate this little helper with great power.
Brownie amulet - how does it differ from a brownie amulet, how does it affect the atmosphere in the house?
If the brownie is an entity that practically does not obey a person (he can only begin to be friends with her, and then the house guard will do everything possible to make life easier), then the brownie is configured the way a person would configure him. It is very important not to forget about the amulet, look at it, keep it clean and never throw it in the back drawer of the table. An ancient Slavic doll, if treated properly, can bring a number of positive changes and literally change the destinies of household members. In particular, the pet Kuzya can:
- protect your home from hurricanes, fires and theft;
- contribute to establishing relationships with the outside world - at work, with neighbors;
- improve relationships in the family - it is necessary if the husband and wife have cooled towards each other, the children have begun to move away and misunderstanding arises;
- attract finance to the house - the home will become a full cup;
- help create a cozy atmosphere - your home will always be calm.
Domovyats should be in a visible place. It would be a good idea to install them under the icons.
What does the doll look like
The protective doll Blagopoluchnitsa, like other Slavic ritual toys, is usually made faceless. What is this connected with? The absence of a face protects the product from the infusion of entities unknown to humans. If you draw a face, an evil spirit may move inside the toy, which will not protect the home from outside influence, but will cause harm to family members.
The well-being has similar features with the herbalist and the krupenichka, but differs from them in appearance and has a different interpretation. A coin is hidden at its base so that it attracts wealth, and the hands are clasped together in a knot. This manufacturing feature helps protect the owner's savings from the wrong hands. The amulet is small, its dimensions rarely exceed 10 cm in height.
Appearance of the doll, meaning, methods of use
The brownie amulet will protect your home only if it is followed in all the rules. The fact is that in online stores and at fairs there are now beautiful things, but they do not have any magical power. It’s better not to take risks and make a talisman yourself or buy it in a trusted magic shop. Brownies can be completely different in appearance. Motankas are popular - dolls made by tying together threads and fabrics. But also include straw houses, even made from clay or plasticine. In principle, there is not much difference in what appearance it has, the main thing is that your beloved Kuzya is in good health, loved and respected in the house.
The meaning for the home is positive changes in any area. The talisman will protect the house from misfortunes, improve family relationships, strengthen marriage bonds, and the like. In a house where there is a brownie, children and animals stop getting sick, it is generally pleasant to be in - guests stay for a long time, the well-known proverb “houses and walls heal” applies. Brownies love attention and warmth. Therefore, place them in a warm and visible place, so that pets do not have access to it.

The role of the pupa in the life of our ancestors
Slavic dolls-amulets were not only used to decorate the interior or to play with in childhood, they have always been very powerful helpers in everyday life, in the social and personal life of our ancestors.
Dolls were made on the occasion of folk holidays, for example, for Maslenitsa or Midsummer Day, as gifts or ritual symbols for celebrating family events, such as a wedding or the birth of a child, and were also simply made as companions and guardians of peace, health, prosperity, love. Ritual dolls were made for various events, such as a new harvest, the passing of winter and other vital stages of the year, and each of them was filled with its own meaning and had its own personal purpose - some dolls were burned as a symbol of purification, and some, on the contrary, filled with cereals and placed in a prominent place to attract wealth into the house. There were a variety of dolls, not only made of fabric, but also made of clay, straw, and even ash.
If a good event happened in the family - a wedding or childbirth, then our ancestors always made dolls - in order to ward off the evil eye, damage, evil spirits and other troubles from a newborn baby, or so that a special doll for newlyweds “lovebirds” would help maintain the integrity of the unity of the new family. The secret of real lovebirds is that they were made from one indivisible square of fabric with a common handle, and during production the red thread of fate was never broken - then, according to legend, the family will never be destroyed - they have a common basis and a common judge. Only when the baby appeared was a separate loop tied. Lovebirds were sometimes dressed up in beautiful festive clothes.
At a wedding, a midwife or an adult relative placed a “swaddle” doll on the bride’s lap in order to protect the unborn child even before conception, so that the evil spirits guarding the married couple would see the “swaddled child” and move into it instead of a real child. Also, the diaper “warmed the bed” even before the birth of the child, and served as the first toy and amulet for the baby. The Kuvadka doll was directly involved in childbirth. When a woman gave birth in a bathhouse, the child’s father imitated childbirth in the dressing room, and the sledgehammer served as a talisman to ward off dark forces from the real child. Evil spirits will come and inhabit the doll, but they will not notice the child. After childbirth, the kuvadkas were burned. If such a ritual was not performed, then the kuvadki were simply tied together and served as a bright toy for the baby.
Dolls were also made for various other reasons - for example, if the husband was leaving for a long time, then a protective doll of the owner was made in his place and placed in a place of honor in the house. And if a woman in the family could not give birth, then another doll was made - Moskovka, so that with her stateliness and splendor she would help bring and embody in the family the spirit of happy motherhood and fatherhood. And if the wife planned to have a child, then in order for him to appear as soon as possible, she made herself a “pregnant doll”, and the result did not take long to arrive. The secret of a pregnant doll is simple - an ordinary doll was made, and a small “diaper” was hidden in the hem of it.
In order for health to reign in the house, so that nothing could harm it, a “little egg” was made - a beautiful doll sitting on a bag of healing aromatic herbs. If someone got sick, they rubbed the bag with their fingers, walking with it throughout the house, and then they put the bag in the sick person’s bed so that the spirit of the disease would get scared and disappear. For a small child, they always made a small “bunny” amulet. If it was necessary to leave the child alone, then so that he would not be sad or scared, a bunny was put on his finger, and the child was no longer left alone - he was with a talisman, a friend and a toy all in one person.
In order for good and joyful news to always come to the house, “bell” dolls were made and several of them were hung up at once. The “day-night” doll protected the peace of sleep at night and gave daytime joy and energy. This doll also carried the philosophical meaning of existence - you need day and night, rain and sun, winter and summer, white god and black god - everything is needed for something, you need to love everything.
And in addition to all of the above, personal dolls were also made for each person - amulets made of fabric by tying, wrapping and twisting. Such dolls were responsible for all aspects of life, helped in all endeavors, and protected from all illnesses. These were the personal dolls of adults, their tireless protectors.

How to make a brownie amulet with your own hands?
The easiest way to make a brownie at home is to make a rag doll. To do this, you will need a layer of any natural fabric, but it is better to take cotton or linen. Fabrics for making clothes and straw for hair are selected. If you look at the Domovyat amulets, you will notice that they always hold a small bag in their hands. You can choose what to fill this bag with yourself. For example, if you want to attract financial well-being, then put a few coins in a bag and fill it with cereal. But if you feel that you are becoming an object of the evil eye, then place a homemade miniature broom in the brownie’s hand.
You can make a brownie yourself in just a few steps. Master Class:
- spread the fabric on the table;
- form a head from the middle, stuff it with cotton wool and twist it with thread;
- do the rest of the body in the same manner;
- attach the handles to the brownie from a separate piece of material; make clothes - a shirt or an apron will do, but you can get by with a regular sheet;
- attach a bag to your hands;
- make hair out of straw;
- You can paint your face - pumpkin eyes, a button mouth.
The brownie can be stuffed with medicinal herbs - this helps improve the health of the household.
Making Brownie's girlfriend - the Brownie doll
We twist the frame of the future doll from the wire, the frame corresponds to the height of the doll (mine is 35 cm), we wrap all the joints or places where the wire was cut with electrical tape.
We cut the padding polyester into strips and wrap the frame. We sew the edges of the padding polyester.
We cover all parts of the body that will be visible with nylon. You can also take flesh-colored knitwear. Don’t forget that we don’t yet have a head, but the back of the head, and we do it “beautifully” from the back.
We sew a pad from nylon and stuff it with synthetic padding, and sew up the edge. With a marker (disappearing) we outline the nose, mouth and places for the eyes.
Now the most difficult thing for a novice craftsman: using a thread and a needle to “sculpt” a face. In fact, you just need to understand where the recess will be (for example, the mouth) and stitch there, grabbing part of the padding polyester, but the corners of the mouth need to be pulled with a thread to the corners of the eyes - then we will get a smile.. In general, here you just need to experiment and everything will work out.
I use ready-made eyes, so I make a slot for them and glue them in. If you use buttons, then you don’t need to make slits, just sew them on - pull the thread firmly and the eyes will retract themselves and draw in part of the pad - and you’ll get the desired recess
Sew the face to the body
We sew on the tummy, after all, Brownies love to eat
Doing onuchi on your feet
We put on pre-knitted bast shoes
We sew panties, sew their top to the body. My toys are not intended for children to play with, so clothing should not be removed. If you order a toy specifically for a child, then the entire body is covered, only knitwear and natural fabrics are used for clothing, no paints are used, the clothes are all removable... in general, “.. that’s a completely different story...”
We sew the sleeves and put them on the arms, securing them on one side. You can sew a whole blouse, but in this case it is not necessary.
We sew a sundress from 2 pieces of fabric.
Let's start finishing the head.
First, we put on a hat, which in the future will become part of the scarf. We fix it on the head
We sew pieces of fur along the edge of the “cap” and tie a strip of fabric on top of the same color as the sleeves. Instead of fur, you can use yarn of a suitable color, fixing each strand with glue and thread.
We tie an apron to the Housewife
We trim everything with braid. I prefer to do the finishing on the doll, but someone might find it more convenient to do this in advance.
Now we make a beauty out of a faceless doll: draw a blush, lightly line the eyes, paint the lips. To do this, you can use everything that any woman has in her cosmetic bag, or you can use acrylic paints. Spray everything on top with hairspray.
We sew a bag into which we put aromatic herbs and make a small broom. The doll is ready.
Our Brownie is a Brownie's girlfriend. He collects all the good things in a bag, and expels all the bad things from the house.
