Rating of the most powerful weapons in the Marvel universe (what's cooler than Thor's hammer?)

Thor's Hammer

Visually, Mjolnir is similar to a sledgehammer, it is gray in color and has a short round handle.

In the Marvel Universe, Odin, Thor's father, created the hammer in such a way that only the worthy could lift it. Mjolnir has a number of amazing properties: it is capable of causing lightning, thunder and storms, and always returns exactly to the place from which it is thrown. The weapon can manipulate the weather and helps its owner open interdimensional portals.

The one who becomes subject to lifting the hammer of Thor must use his strength only for self-defense or to save the weak and have nobility of spirit. A creature that can move Mjolnir strives to preserve peace. In cases where it is impossible to do without a battle, the hero must understand all the risks and possible consequences of the battle.

These guns are more powerful than tanks and missiles.

Still from the film "Thor 2: The Dark World"

Back in 2008, a billionaire genius named Tony Stark made himself a flight suit that also served as armor. He then added weapons and Iron Man was born.

More than a decade and two dozen films later, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still constantly introducing cool new toys into its ranks, from dangerous melee weapons to deceptively simple tools that pack incredible power. But what is the most powerful of all this?

Well, some of the items on the list don't seem all that powerful at first glance, but in the hands of the right character, they become formidable weapons. From space suits to deadly blades, here's our ranking of the most powerful weapons in the MCU.

Captain America

By and large, Captain America is a character that combines all the positive qualities of people valued in society. However, having the strongest nobility of spirit, Steve Rogers was unable to lift Mjolnir in the film “Avengers: Age of Ultron”.

The reason the superhero failed to do this is because Hammer sees a significant flaw in Cap's character. By and large, Captain America became worthy even when he wrote a letter of apology to Tony. In it, the superhero said that he wanted to apologize to Stark for hiding from him the real cause of his parents' death. After this, Mjolnir begins to sense all the good qualities that Captain America has. That is why in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" Cap was able to move the hammer from a dead point. However, Mjolnir still considers the superhero unworthy.

The fact is that at that time the worst thing for Captain America was that there would be no more battles. No wonder: he is a soldier, in some respects, war is the meaning of life for him. However, the battles are over, Steve Rogers is depressed: he loves and knows how to fight, and is used to solving conflicts with the obligatory participation of physical force. This, one way or another, comes into serious conflict with Odin's spell, which he cast on Mjolnir.

However, in the film "Avengers: Endgame", the Captain's attitude towards what is happening changes. Thanos destroyed the infinity locks, Steve Rogers suffered a heavy defeat, but instead of throwing out his anger, the cap comes to the conclusion that one must be able to accept losses, starting to learn to live calmly.

The scene in the elevator is indicative in this regard: the superhero could easily deal with Hydra agents, however, he chooses a white lie - in order not to harm anyone. With his newfound wisdom and change in attitude, Captain America was able to lift Thor's hammer, finally becoming worthy.

Corvus Glaive's Glaive

Still from the movie "Avengers: Infinity War"

Avengers: Infinity War brought the genocidal warlord known as Thanos to the forefront of the MCU for the first time, and as a result, we got a little more insight into what his day-to-day life as a galactic despot was like.

Thanos's army included a group of elite lieutenants whom he called his "children", among whom was the prominent member of the Black Order, Corvus Glaive.

Corvus's primary weapon was a skillfully crafted glaive, which he used to great effect in close combat against the Avengers. At first glance, it's just another melee weapon that he's very comfortable with, but just how powerful it is is evident in the way he uses it against Vision.

Corvus sneaks up behind the superhero and impales him on the glaive, and when Vision is unable to get out because of the weapon, it shocks both Scarlet Witch and the audience. In other words, the glaive can pierce Vision's vibranium body while other weapons can't, and even crazier, it can prevent him from going into ghost mode. It's a pretty neat trick.

Vision

Vision is an absolute: he combines all the abilities of other superheroes, in addition, he is a machine that is capable of feeling. Vision was created to fight members of the Avengers by the robot Ultron: with the help of an android that he could control, he wanted to destroy his creators - Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne.

However, despite the fact that the android was created in order to wipe out the Avengers from the face of the Earth, he stopped obeying the program built into him, and, together with other superheroes, defeated his creator.

The correct operation of the control crystals placed in the android was disrupted - this led to the fact that Vision stopped feeling and lost the ability to reason humanistically. As a result, the character decided to seize control not only of all computers on Earth, but also of all security systems in the world.

Because of this, the government kidnapped Vision, dismantling him and erasing the android's memory. However, the Avengers did not leave their friend in trouble, stealing his parts from the authorities. Hank Pym began restoring and reprogramming Vision. All the necessary files were downloaded into the android, but Wonder Man did not agree to re-give the elements of his brain. As a result, Vision returned to life, regaining the ability to think and reason, however, the android could no longer feel - he had forgotten his love for his wife.

Later, Vision received an artificial intelligence update, due to which he began to experience emotions again, however, he decided not to renew his relationship with his lover.

The first theory to explain why Vision lifted Thor's hammer is that the android was able to do it because he is the absolute of both strength and moral character. As a continuously learning machine, capable of endlessly developing both intelligence and senses, Vision is in some ways an ideal - which is why he was able to lift Mjolnir.

The second theory states that the android managed to lift Thor's hammer off the ground simply because he is a machine. Odin's spell does not apply to anything that does not have flesh and blood, so the robot superhero was able to lift Mjolnir. In this regard, the following analogy is drawn: “An elevator can also lift Thor’s hammer, however, this does not mean that it has become worthy.”

Hela's Nightswords

Still from the movie "Thor: Ragnarok"

Many of the most powerful weapons in the Marvel Cinematic Universe belong to the Asgardians, who are gods. These characters live for thousands of years, have incredible power and resources, and tend to stumble upon all sorts of interesting things while traveling through space. This means that when going into battle against them, you should be prepared to deal with all sorts of spells and unique devices.

In Thor: Ragnarok, the Goddess of Death known as Hela demonstrates this very quickly with her nightswords. These obsidian blades are unique in that only Hela seems to be able to WILD them.

Plus, Hela isn't afraid to get creative with her blades. She'll throw some sword darts at the wall to make her point, but she'll also summon giant blades to impale her enemies. They are universal, they are painful, and they cannot be stopped.

Groot

Groot is an alien character who originally came to Earth to capture the human race for the purpose of conducting experiments. One day, while his race was being defeated in battle, Groot sacrificed himself so that the team could escape. Only one branch remained from it, from which the extraterrestrial life form later managed to recover to its original size.

Groot later joined the Guardians of the Galaxy team, and during joint missions he always took on the main threat.

Among the character's features is that he can absorb the wood surrounding him in order to gain size and strength. Groot is also not afraid of flames - he is fire resistant. The superhero can use the powers of trees, forcing them to attack the enemy.

The directors of Infinity War said that Groot was able to lift Thor's hammer because he was not affected by Odin's spell. After all, despite the fact that Groot is a superhero, he is considered a representative of another race.

The information presented is official and comes from the Russo brothers, the directors of the film, however, this explanation is not popular in the Marvel fan community.

People see Groot as having phenomenal moral qualities and not just being a different race. Because of this, the popular belief is that the superhero was able to lift Mjolnir due to the fact that he is worthy.

Looking at the reasons why Captain America, Vision and Groot managed to lift Thor's hammer, you can see that they are similar: all superheroes turned out to be worthy of picking up Mjolnir, even though the interpretation of the event regarding Vision and Groot is ambiguously perceived in fan society.

Yak's arrow Yondu

Still from the film “Guardians of the Galaxy. Part 2"

At first glance, the Yaka arrow wielded by Yondu Udonta in the Guardians of the Galaxy films may not seem particularly impressive. After all... it's just an arrow.

But at the end of the first Guardians films, we see Yondu's weapon in all its glory, and suddenly it becomes clear that Yaka's arrow is a force to be reckoned with.

Firstly, not everyone can control it. You have to master its acoustically controlled sensitivity first, and even then it's difficult to precisely control its flight. Yak's arrow seems to be able to fly through everything from flesh to the hull of a spaceship. With the right operator, it will kill you before you even know it's coming, and it can be used to take out an entire ship full of bad guys, as we found out in Guardians Part 2. Now Kraglin must learn to use it as well as his old friend did.

Types of amulets

Images of Mjolnir can be made using the following techniques:

  • minting;
  • artistic forging;
  • wood carving;
  • casting from plaster or metal.

Usually an amulet in the form of a small hammer is worn around the neck. It is also customary to decorate clothes and bags with images of Mjolnir. Stylized pictures in the form of a hammer are often found in national ornaments decorating local handicrafts. The printing industry produces stickers with the image of Mjolnir for interior decoration. It is believed that the most powerful protection is provided by a hammer hanging on the neck. Keychains with a formidable weapon are very popular.
