Thor's Hammer: symbolism, use, DIY making

Every culture has one or more sacred symbols, which are attributed the greatest divine power and protective ability, which is used in a number of talismans, for example, for Christians this is the cross that a person puts on at baptism and invariably wears throughout life. Thor's Hammer - for the Scandinavians, it became such a symbol, most likely borrowed from the ancient culture of Indonesia, the symbol of the sun in the form of a cross. Over time, it transformed and began to resemble an ax in shape. This symbol was named after the supreme god of the Scandinavians - Thor.

Thor's Hammer is an ancient Scandinavian amulet for men.

Creation of Thor's Hammer

Creating amulets is a whole science. There are many different rules, theories, advice on what patterns can be applied, and how to properly create a talisman. Reason: it is not always possible to make Thor's hammer - you need to choose special days of the week, phases of the moon. These days will be different for each zodiac sign.

There is no need to be upset if the chosen shape or design of the amulet does not correspond to the zodiac sign of its owner - in any case, the talisman has energy that cannot harm anyone. You also need to understand that the priority is the internal connection between the owner and the talisman, energy.

Master's work

When choosing a master, you need to be especially careful in your choice. A specialist must be endowed not only with the necessary knowledge, but also with positive, suitable energy. It is important to first read reviews of the master’s work. It’s better to find out the real stories of those whom amulets really helped.

After this, the master is provided with a complete list of information necessary to create the Hammer of Thor amulet. This is not a simple thing - an amulet is made for a specific person, therefore, during the forging process, the item is initially tuned to the wavelength of its future owner.

When the amulet is made, even better if you do it yourself, you need to hold it in your hand as much as possible, talk, talk about requests, share your secret. The amulet must “get used” to the owner and receive a portion of personal energy. Only then does a thing help protect a person when powerful energetic contact is established.

Use the Hammer of Thor amulet more often, treat it with respect and love. You can call it a talisman by name. Only if the attitude is reverent, the talisman will really help. If you treat it like an ordinary souvenir lying in a box with the others, then you don’t need to wait for help.

The main key to success is trusting relationships and close contact. The amulet should become a person’s best friend, and then, accordingly, a protector.

My friend and his son are Thor fans. They wanted to buy Mjolnir with pretty good detail, but the price on the Internet is too high for my friend's finances.

In the end, I decided to make this hammer for a friend, and this article describes how to make Mjolnir - Thor's hammer - with your own hands.

Step 1: Research

To begin with, I decided to decide on the design of the hammer. I found a couple of photos on the Internet. In principle, they have almost the same design, which is what I chose to create my Mjolnir.

Step 2: Basic Assembly

Looking at the pictures, I decided that the approximate size of the hammer without the handle (which will be attached later) is 15.24 cm x 15.24 cm x 22.86 cm.

I made a wooden box, and to fit the design I had to make beveled corners. You need to make a hole in the box for the hammer handle.

Step 3: Bad Idea

I decided to change the hammer a little, but this idea failed.

The failed idea was to make a gap between the main part of the hammer and the “working part”, and use automotive putty for engraving. But the car putty did not work properly.

Well, let's move on to plan B.

Step 4: Plan B

Mark the places where the engraving will be with rectangles and make indentations in them. I used a Dremel for this.

Always be careful and use protective equipment! I accidentally cut myself.

Step 5: Details

Since I decided that the engraving would be around the entire perimeter of the hammer, it should be identical. To do this, I engraved a design on a piece of plastic (I'm a bad engraver and artist). This piece of plastic is something like a negative.

Then I poured the silicone into the plastic (for best results, the silicone needs to be pressed down with something flat).

Step 6: "300 Million Elephants"

Once the handle is installed, the concrete can be poured into the hammer. This will add additional strength and weight to my product.

Step 7: Final Assembly

Place the silicone parts into place. And cover everything with primer.

Step 8: Check

This is the last chance to change anything about the hammer before painting.

Step 9: Painting

The hardest part is painting the wood to make it look like metal.

My plan was this:

  • Painting with gray paint
  • Sandpaper treatment
  • Painting with gray paint
  • Sandpaper treatment
  • Painting with silver paint
  • Sandpaper treatment
  • Silver spray
  • Sanding with fine grit sandpaper

Step 10: Details

You will also need a little black paint to give it a metal texture.

I applied a little black paint and wiped it off with a rag.

Step 11: Handle

For the handle I used leather from an old jacket and glue.

I wrapped the handle and secured the leather with glue.

Unfortunately there aren't many pictures of this step as I was very tired.

Step 12: Enjoy

I was satisfied with my work, despite the sleepless night.

I covered the hammer with several layers of clear varnish for reliability.

My friend is over the moon and his son said this hammer is too heavy for a toy. I think admiring the hammer is already a great pleasure for him.

The Amulet of Thor's Hammer, also known as Mjolnir, can not only protect its owner, but also endow him with energy and various abilities. This Scandinavian amulet belongs to a deity from the main group of aesir gods, the son of Odin himself, the god of war and victory, who knew the secrets of runic symbols.

Thor's Mjolnir is a sign of light, designed to help all those in need. Despite this, it should be used with caution. There are a considerable number of nuances that are important to consider. We will help you understand all the intricacies of this ancient symbol, tell you how to choose a talisman and how to handle it.

In Scandinavian legends, Thor, the god of thunder and lightning, rode in a chariot drawn by two goats.

The Thor rune, personifying the Hammer in its runic outline, was used by the Scandinavians no less than the Mjolnir sign itself. Scandinavian legends are replete with references to the magical weapon of a god who controls thunder and lightning. The Scandinavians themselves often used this runic symbol on a hammer for their magical rituals and depicted it not only on weapons, but also on ritual objects.

The mythology of the ancient Scandinavians echoes some other pagan religions. The Slavic thunderer Perun, for example, is considered to be the “brother” of Thor. However, their weapons - a hammer and an ax - have different versions of their origin. The latter allegedly appeared during the battle between Perun and the Serpent. The Scandinavian Thunderer, according to prophecy, will one day also have to fight the Serpent, whose name is Jormungandr. But Mjolnir appeared to him much earlier than.

You can find out about the Slavic god Perun and his attributes.

Who forged Thor's Hammer

Thor's hammer was not forged by humans. Dwarf dwarves, the most skilled craftsmen, worked on it.

According to one legend, the Hammer Mjolnir was forged specifically for Thor, the son of the supreme god Odin and the earth goddess Jord, his wife. The manufacture of weapons was carried out by dwarfs, who in Scandinavia were called dvergs. These creatures were very skilled blacksmiths. So skillful that no one in the world could compare with their skill.

The doors not only forged the most flexible and hard steel, but also created such miniature things that the human eye simply could not notice them. The names of the craftsmen who made Thor's Hammer are Cindy and Brokcom.

Among the various legends that have survived to this day, there are many stories about how dwarfs, or simply gnomes, made swords and chain mail for those who aroused their sympathy. Such gifts usually came with a surprise - they had a certain magical power, which often turned against the owners themselves. Thor's hammer, given as a gift to the god of thunder and lightning, also had special properties. No matter where it was thrown, it always returned to its owner, like a boomerang.

Who could raise the attribute of the god Thor

Thor's hammer was a unique attribute of the deity, subordinate exclusively to himself. No one could lift Mjolnir except Thor. During its production, Loki, the god of cunning and deception, tried to prevent the Dverga from creating such a perfect weapon, so in some way the hammer turned out to be defective.

Thor could fight with the Hammer both in close combat and throw it at a distance. Destroying everything in its path, the weapon returned to its owner.

The handle was too short, which caused the center of gravity to be shifted. Therefore, Thor’s Hammer was difficult to lift even for Thor himself. But still he coped with this task and successfully used it in battle. Thanks to its magical properties, Mjolnir was useful not only in close combat, but also in long-range combat. Thor launched it, sweeping away everything in its path, and the hammer, having made a circle, flew back into the hands of the owner.

There are several versions of why the deity had to wear iron gauntlets to control his weapons. One of them claims that they made it easier for him to hold and throw a hammer. Another says that this way Thor did not burn his hands when the hammer became hot during a long battle.

Is it possible to make a talisman yourself?

Theoretically, it is possible to make Thor's hammer with your own hands, but in practice it is very problematic. Firstly, the amulet is made of silver or other durable metal. To give the desired shape you need to be a good blacksmith and foundry worker. In addition, for a long time, the manufacture of amulets was entrusted only to experienced craftsmen who knew the intricacies and peculiarities of the craft. It is very difficult to cope with this on your own.

If you particularly desire, if it is not possible to purchase a ready-made metal amulet, you can use a simpler method using a wooden base of walnut or oak. It is important to follow one rule: production should not be rushed. Also, you should not practice the Hammer of Thor amulet in a bad mood. The owner must radiate the energy that he wants to impart to the amulet.

What does the symbol mean?

Since this deity was responsible for thunder, abundance and protection of the weak and those who had lost faith in their own strength, his weapon personified not only a weapon against the forces of evil and dark spells, but also a symbol of the fight against weakness. People believe that the owners of the talisman are under the patronage and protection of this Scandinavian god.

There are a number of meanings for the “Thor’s Hammer” amulet; this talisman can be used as a source of strength, vital energy, it gives its owner endurance and victory in battle. The weak and suffering may wear it for protection. Since Thor is the god of storms, the image of his weapon can save from the violence of nature. A talisman can give fertility and protect the harvest, save from dark forces and witchcraft. Some use it to attract wealth and protect against poverty.

How to wear a talisman correctly

Since the “Hammer of Thor” amulet is not just a decoration for beauty, but a powerful magical object, it is worth wearing it, taking into account some rules and nuances. After all, only by observing these points can you receive the protection of the Scandinavian god and win him over. The amulet should always be with you, preferably on your neck. If it’s just a figurine or a keychain, then it’s better to put it in a box. You can also sew an opaque bag especially for such a talisman. Remember, someone else's attention to a magical attribute can deprive him of his inner strength and energy reserves.

Under no circumstances should you give the amulet into the wrong hands, even just to look after it. It is very sensitive to human energy, and if it is not taken by the owner, the thing will lose some of its powers. And if a person also has bad intentions or is jealous of you, then the amulet can absorb negative energy and begin to work against you.

Another important rule: you cannot wear the amulet together with other jewelry, but only if they depict reptiles. The symbolism of these signs is very contradictory, and the disharmony that ancient Celtic signs create in combination with the image of reptiles can have a very negative impact on the owner of the jewelry.

The meaning of the Hammer of Thor amulet, its history and magical properties

Thor's hammer, according to Scandinavian legends, had special power

People have long been accustomed to using amulets, Slavic amulets, all kinds of magical talismans to protect themselves from misfortunes, gain strength for glorious victories, and catch luck by the tail. According to Scandinavian legends, the amulet of Thor's hammer had special power.

There were many legends around him, and his power was revered, trying to be used for their own good. Thor is the god of the highest Scandinavian-Germanic pantheon, the son of the supreme god Odin, powerful, good-natured, beloved and protector of people. According to legend, the handsome red-bearded man was quick-tempered, but fair, cocky, but very kind. They revered him, loved him, and worshiped his strength.

Thor's main weapon for fighting evil was a hammer, so heavy that only God himself could lift it. The hammer was called Mjolnir, which means “to crush,” and after defeating an enemy, it always returned to its owner’s hands. This glorious weapon has come down to us not only in tales, legends and film adaptations, but also in the form of a beautiful amulet.

We will talk about its magical power and the purpose of the symbol.

The meaning of the talisman

Thor is the powerful god of storms, thunder, abundance, protector of the weak and those who have lost faith in themselves. His hammer is a symbolic weapon not only against evil, but also against any manifestation of weakness. It is believed that the person who owns the talisman of Thor's hammer is now under his protection and patronage. There are several meanings of the symbol:

  • is a source of strength and endurance for warriors
  • protects the weak and suffering;
  • helps protect against any natural disasters;
  • bestows fertility and a generous harvest;
  • protects against dark forces and evil spells;
  • bestows prosperity, helps to avoid poverty. Thor's Hammer is a symbolic weapon against evil and any manifestation of weakness

It is believed that the Scandinavian amulet is an analogue of the Slavic amulet. The ancient Slavic amulet, the hammer of Svarog, increases self-confidence, strengthens family ties, and bestows perseverance and courage.

The ancient sign contains two opposing energies - destructive and creative. The Scandinavians used it in wedding ceremonies and applied it to the tombstones of those who died in battle. It was believed that the ancient sign bestows eternal peace. The sign seems to be imbued with the power of a brave warrior god, which is why many consider it an exclusively male talisman.

It is generally accepted that Thor's hammer is an exclusively male amulet.

In fact, everything is not like that. One of the meanings of Thor's hammer is fertility.

That is why many women who could not get pregnant for a long time carried such an amulet with them.

They believed that the powerful power and protection of a god who is kind to people would soon help them become pregnant, bear a child, and give birth to a strong and healthy baby - the heir of the family.

But in general, the amulet of Thor's hammer is predominantly a male symbol.

Thor's Hammer amulet can be presented as a gift to men whose profession involves physical labor. The talisman will become a source of strength for him and grant him endurance. It will give determination and courage to those whose activities are related to military service.

Such an amulet will help athletes avoid injuries, maintain health, and become less vulnerable.

The main meaning of the Thor's hammer amulet is to protect from any negativity, bestow determination, and bring good luck in any endeavor. Like the ancient Slavic god Svarog, Thor does not tolerate falsehood, so the power of the amulet is revealed only in case of good intentions. Today, the symbol is often applied to the body in the form of a tattoo, the sign is embroidered on clothes, and jewelry is made.

Thor's hammer is often used in tattoo designs, embroidery, and jewelry.

The symbol of the mighty Thor is not just a beautiful pattern, but a thing endowed with powerful energy; such a talisman should be treated with special respect, attention and frugality. You can buy a pendant in the form of an ancient symbol, or you can make it yourself.

You can make an amulet with your own hands

In any case, there are several rules:

  1. If you decide to make an amulet with your own hands, you should not start work in a bad mood. The talisman can absorb negative energy. If you are not feeling well or are sick, postpone work until you are healthy again.
  2. If you decide to buy jewelry, then silver products have the greatest power. People have long believed that silver is a protector against any dark magic, therefore amulets and talismans made from this noble metal are endowed with especially strong energy.

You should not buy such an amulet made of gold. Thor is the leader of the warriors, so the brilliance and wealth of the merchant are alien to him. Silver is a modest metal, but endowed with powerful protective powers.

A silver amulet has the most powerful powers.

  1. If you decide to make an amulet in the shape of Thor’s hammer with your own hands, then the best raw material will be natural wood. It is necessary to choose from strong wood species. Oak and walnut are the personification of masculinity, longevity, endurance and natural strength.
  2. To bring your creative plans to life, use sketches.
Often the amulet is decorated with a Celtic pattern. Before applying it to the talisman, familiarize yourself with the meaning of the ornament or ligature from ancient symbols.
  3. When the finished product is already in your hands, it needs to be “charged” with positive energy.
Silver absorbs energy especially beneficially. To do this you need to perform a simple ritual. First, draw the letter T in the air, and then mentally address the amulet with a request or desire and thank it.

It is important to remember: by choosing Thor’s hammer as your assistant, you can only do good, useful deeds. If you decide to annoy someone from your environment, the amulet will turn your wish back into a boomerang.

In the same way, the amulet will protect the owner if someone has evil plans against him.

How to wear a talisman

Since the little thing is not only a stylish decoration, but also a powerful magical protector, there are several recommendations on how to wear the Thor's hammer talisman. To receive the help and protection of the powerful Scandinavian god, you must follow these rules:

  • You need to wear the amulet around your neck, and if it is a keychain or just a figurine of a hammer, then always have it with you. If you remove the talisman, hide it immediately in a box or bag. It is better to hide the amulet from prying eyes so as not to deprive it of its great power.

It is advisable to wear the amulet around the neck

  • Do not give your amulet into the wrong hands. This negatively affects his abilities, reducing the energy activity of the talisman.
  • It is strictly forbidden to combine such a talisman with jewelry, symbols or images of reptiles. There is a contradiction between these signs, which can negatively affect their owner.

The amulet can be combined with other jewelry as long as it does not depict reptiles

When choosing a talisman, you should consider its combination with the sign of the Zodiac. Thor's Hammer is a symbol that brings goodness, luck and prosperity to its owner. His energy is especially in harmony with people born under the sign of Aries. This is the main talisman that will provide Aries with victory on the love front and will help in the fight against enemies and competitors.

In general, there is only one rule: an energetic connection must arise between the talisman and its owner. The symbol of Thor's hammer is universal. It will help everyone develop, show their best qualities, strengthen their character, making a person a winner. There is one “but”: all thoughts and aspirations must be righteous, aimed at good goals.

Only in this case will the Scandinavian god Thor bestow his protection on you and endow you with the strength of a brave warrior.

Thor's Hammer will help everyone develop their best qualities

The amulet must be cleaned from time to time. There are two simple ways:

  1. Cleansing with water. Rinse the item with running water for 10 minutes and then place it in salt overnight. Then rinse again with water.
  2. Purification by fire. Simply heat the product over a candle and then rinse under running water.

Silver recognizes and absorbs negative energy, so it needs cleaning. If you do not periodically perform such a simple ritual, the power of the amulet weakens.

The power of a silver amulet weakens if it is not cleaned

There is an opinion that a person never gets an amulet by chance.

According to legend, the hammer always returned to the hands of the mighty god Thor after a glorious victory over evil.

This ancient symbol, guarding goodness and light, will bring its owner success in any endeavor, become an assistant in sports competitions and a talisman against the evil eye of envious people.

The meaning of the Hammer of Thor amulet is still controversial among researchers. Thor is one of the supreme and most revered gods of the ancient Scandinavians. It is known in many other cultures, but has a different name according to the beliefs of the people.

Thor possessed a powerful weapon - a hammer, which, according to ancient legends, only he could lift. It was this weapon that served as a symbol, which later became a talisman. But first you need to figure out who Thor is and what his hammer, called Mjolnir, is.

Scandinavian mythology gave the world many gods, heroes and amazing creatures who became the main characters in works of art, films or music. However, the most famous and beloved god of the Scandinavians was Thor.

According to legend, he was the son of Yorda, the goddess of the earth, and Odin, the supreme god, the father of all the Aesir.

Thor looked different in different myths, but he was always portrayed as a brave god with incredible strength and courage. He had control over thunder and lightning, which shook the earth when God was angry.

He had a rather hot-tempered character, but self-control allowed him not to use his power during every attack of rage. Thor protected the Aesir from the giants and his equipment helped him in this.

He rode on an iron chariot drawn by two goats, and a red-hot hammer sparkled in his hands. It was he who was identified with the thunderstorm, so he was always very hot.

It was extremely difficult to hold him with bare hands, so the god always had iron gloves. He used his hammer not only as a weapon. With it he could resurrect animals, influence the fertility of fields, and bless marriages.
