Patterns of fabric toys: do-it-yourself goats and bears

Let's imagine a situation where you are invited to a child's birthday party. What gift will you give him? Surely, among other things, a toy comes to mind. We may not realize it, but as a gift giver it is also important to us how long the gift will be used and how appropriate the gift is.

Nipples, diapers and diapers are needed for a certain period of time. Clothes and shoes can also be worn for a maximum season, because the baby is growing. But a funny toy is a safe bet that your gift will be used for several years if it doesn’t get lost or spoiled.

Patterns for fabric toys are very diverse, but we will show you the most popular ones.

It’s the latter that I would like to talk about in particular. We are not talking about rattles, which will also be used for a short time. Let's talk about soft toys.

Modern toys

Today's variety of factory products cannot but rejoice. But let's draw a hypothetical situation.

If you are invited to a birthday party for a girl who is turning 1 year old, will you rush to buy the first toy you come across in the supermarket? Hardly. This brings to mind the notorious Chinese products, full of chemical surprises.

You will have to meticulously inspect the seams on the chosen bear, once again feel the small details, such as the eyes and nose - are they glued well? And other joys of responsible gift selection.

This is because mass tailoring is growing to unprecedented proportions, but losing quality. Even such an interesting and funny toy as the tilde, which was originally intended as a hand-sewn product, took its place in the production processes of toy factories.

In order not to worry about the environmental component of the toy, it is easier and safer to sew it yourself. This is not as complicated a process as it seems at first glance. Today we will look at several patterns of toys made of fabric with our own hands, which are easy to make even for novice craftswomen.

And it doesn’t matter at all whether it’s a simple flat toy or a voluminous soft figurine. The main thing is that it will be made from safe materials and with love, as the child deserves.

Horny girlfriend

This funny goat will appeal to kids and even adults. It is sewn using soft and pleasant to the touch materials, which are recommended for sewing children's toys. Very detailed master class with photos.

So, we will need:

  • Fleece in white and light beige shades.
  • Cotton fabric with cheerful colors for a dress.
  • Lace for an apron.
  • Filling (sintepon, padding polyester, holofiber).
  • Tools.

We build the pattern ourselves. You can draw it by eye or download the one we offer for free.

  • We cut out the parts, apply them to white fleece, folded in half, pin them, and trace them with a pencil.

We make the ears from beige and white fleece. Cut rectangles from both fabrics. The size should be such that the ears fit freely on them. Pin, trace and cut out.

We cut out the horns only from beige fabric.

We sew everything along the contour. On the seam allowances we make notches with small scissors so that the fabric does not bulge. Turn it inside out and stuff it with our filling.

We fold the cut edges on the horns and baste them. We attach them to the head, where we plan them, and sew them on.

We sew the corners on the ears. Sew near the horns.

Then it's up to the dress. We take our cotton fabric, transfer the dress onto it and cut it out with seam allowances.

We don’t cut out the hooves yet. On small squares of fabric we mark our future details with a pencil.

We lay out the cut parts and then pin the hooves with the front side to the dress. We grind it on a machine.

We begin to sew an apron from lace.

We cut out a strip of 23 cm (additional tucks are expected, that’s why it’s so long). We iron the edges and apply them to our dress, at the same time creating folds. We attach it on a sewing machine.

Now we put both halves of the dress together and sew them on, leaving the neckline. Where the sleeves make a bend, carefully cut the fabric with scissors so that the seam in this place does not pull.

We sew the hem of the dress on a sewing machine.

In the neck area we fold the fabric and secure it with pins. We insert the head and sew it by hand.

We sew on beads for eyes and embroider the nose of the goat.

Our goat is ready. You can play with it by putting it on your hand, or use it as a New Year's toy.

Denim pillow

Did you like working on the goat? We suggest using old jeans and sewing them into a pillow toy.

For this we need:

  • Old jeans.
  • Buttons and fabric for decoration.
  • Any filler you have at your disposal.
  • Tools.

The whole process is simple and clear from the photographs, all you have to do is repeat it and become the owner of a wonderful denim pillow.

Christmas doll Goat: master class on creating a talisman with your own hands

We invite you to create a bast goat for yourself, and she will create joy and a light mood for us. It will help you get through the cold winter and dark season, reach the light that is in the very center of the sleeping earth and bring it into the light.

Always cheerful, always carefree, the Goat, a symbol of vitality and fertility among the Slavs, has always been a participant in Christmas festivities. With her or dressed as her, the mummers walked around the courtyards. It was believed that the Goat was supposed to bring fertile power to the owner of the hut and his land and field. In addition, her fun and carelessness helped her look at her life with ease and play and brought joy and enthusiasm into her.

The mummered Goat was dressed in a special bright dress, on top of which were attached ritual objects: pipes, barrel organs, tambourines, horseshoes as a gift for good luck, bells, bells, wooden beads, earrings, bags with gifts, wreaths of prosperity with small red bags of cereal grains, a wooden block as a gift to a bachelor, as a reminder of the need to get married. You can take all these symbols with you (in miniature); you can limit yourself to ribbons and bows.

Presenter: Maria Mogileva, puppet maker. About 7 years ago I fell in love with traditional dolls. At first I was simply carried away, but when I saw how the dolls fulfilled the intention put into them, showed or cleared the path of obstacles, I began to enjoy the opportunity to communicate with them to fulfill my life tasks.

“I'm very inspired when the people I pass on their design to report their results: husbands quit drinking; relationships improved among those who were at risk of divorce; those who had quarreled were simply reconciled, a long-awaited wedding took place, a child was born and much more that appeared after the person created the doll. When I became acquainted with urban shamanism, taking a course from Maryana Kolesnik and Olga Belova and then attending a seminar by Jonathan Horwitz, one of the founders of urban shamanism, I felt how close these practices of communicating with spirits through rattles, tambourines, and other objects of power are with the material embodiment of intention through twisting dolls. This filled communication with the dolls with new, stronger connections.”
