There are many precious and semi-precious stones in the modern world. Each of them has unique magical and healing properties. These include the Simbirtsit stone, which, due to its unusual appearance, has gained enormous popularity. Simbircite is a mineral that is very similar in composition to lapis lazuli.

Simbirtsit stone

The structure of the rock consists of different mixtures, but the majority are limestone, mother of pearl and calcite. The solar mineral Simbircite was able to spread throughout the globe and for this it took more than one million years. Previously, this stone was used as a talisman and amulet.

History and origin

The discovery of the stone dates back to the recent 18th century. In 1765, the Senate Commission instructed Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Svechin to examine the state of forestry in the eastern provinces. While traveling on the banks of the Volga River, in the outskirts of the city of Simbirsk, the lieutenant colonel discovered unusual stones that few people found attractive.

Simbirtsit mineral

At the end of the audit, in his report, Svechin described in detail everything he saw, including the mineral he discovered - large black stones with transparent and clean yellow veins, which after polishing look like amber. The inspector also mentioned that this nugget is not interesting to local residents, and due to their ignorance, such wondrous beauty does not find use.

Thus, the unique gem again went unnoticed for more than a hundred years after the discovery of Svechin. In the 1980s, geologist Vladimir Efimov decided to develop the stone-cutting industry. Miraculously or not, the base of this industry should have been located where the wonderful mineral, identified as a member of the calcite group, lay.

Already in 1985, Efimov decided to register colored Volga calcite under his own name - simbircite. The name of the stone is similar to the name of the city where the mineral was first discovered - Simbirsk.

It should be mentioned that the mineral was not processed immediately. Efimov's first attempts ended in failure. The masters of stone-cutting art, who had the honor of being the first to try simbircite in practice, returned the raw materials to Efimov, arguing that the stone was soft, fissured, fragile and unsuitable for use.

However, at this stage, the use of the gem has not ended, but has just begun. Today, yellow calcite is successfully processed and is used in stone cutting.

Interesting fact! Today the city of Simbirsk is called Ulyanovsk, and the mineral simbircite is a local symbol and the main asset of this city. In the center of Ulyanovsk stands a statue in the form of a fossilized ancient mollusk shell, the cavities of which are filled with gemstones.

The age of the mineral is 120 million years. Simbircite is found in mountain deposits of the Lower Cretaceous period, as well as in the shells of ancient ammonite mollusks. This means that this nugget is directly related to prehistoric animals. Parts of the skeletons of dinosaurs from the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, together with ammonites, served as the basis in which this rare mineral was born.

The exceptional uniqueness of simbircite lies in the fact that this mineral was formed as a result of the interaction of mollusks with the mineral components of different rocks. Simbircite seems to have absorbed more than one and a half dozen different minerals - pyrite, mother-of-pearl, calcite, quartz, onyx, marl and many others. Thus, from rocks distributed throughout the world, a new gem was born, which is unique in its kind.

In addition to the official name, the stone is also referred to as “Volga amber” or “Simbirsk calcite”. Simbircite has only one similarity with amber, as with carnelian, and that is its color palette. The origins of these breeds are completely different. Although it is believed that simbircite is richer in color.

Thanks to its natural beauty and uniqueness, simbircite has found application in the manufacture of decorative items, souvenirs, jewelry and accessories (tabletop, candlestick, figurines, vases, balls, writing sets). Given the magical properties of the stone, all these items have gained popularity.

Simbircite is also used as a material for interior decoration, but only for interior work, since the mineral is not strong and stable enough for outdoor use.

As for jewelry made from simbircite, among them there are rings, bracelets, earrings, pendants, brooches, pendants, necklaces, necklaces, rosaries, beads, rings and cufflinks. Thanks to modern methods of processing the mineral, ultra-precise cutting has become possible, and the stone, which had not been used for a long time due to the difficulty of processing, immediately took one of the leading places in the production of jewelry.

Physical properties

Simbircite is a translucent stone of a crystalline structure with a dull silky, glassy or greasy luster. The mineral basis of the rock is calcium carbonate. The gem is fragile and highly susceptible to acids. The ammonite variety is stronger. Before processing, the sinewy subspecies is impregnated with colorless resins to make the material more resistant to mechanical stress.

  • red;
  • burgundy;
  • orange;
  • brown;
  • white;
  • green.

The admixtures of various elements, minerals and organics give the stone a special picturesque quality. One stone can combine several different colors.

According to the place of formation and occurrence, simbircite is divided into two varieties:

  • Residential. The most common type. It originated by crystallization from formational near-surface waters inside marl nodules. Vein simbircite is characterized by a striped pattern - veins reaching a thickness of up to 10 cm.

    Vein Simbirtsit

  • Ammonitic. It arose inside the shells of ancient ammonite mollusks. Belongs to rare minerals.

    Ammonite Simbircite

Ammonite simbircite is much more expensive than vein symbircite, not only due to its rarity. This type of gem does not need to be processed - thanks to the deposit inside the shells, this stone initially has rounded attractive shapes.

Physico-chemical characteristics

Simbircite is a mineral from the calcite group, a type of onyx.

The composition includes one and a half dozen elements, led by golden marble onyx and petrified organics. Some elements remained from the mollusk (limestone, mother of pearl, calcite). Pyrite, marl, hematite were added from outside.

Medicinal properties

The healing powers of simbircite are aimed more at calming and restoring the body than at treatment. This stone is the focus of many energies of different minerals, but it does not work as a panacea for all diseases. The gem eliminates pain, spasms, normalizes organ function, and helps heal wounds.

Honey gem is an excellent antispasmodic and analgesic. The stone helps with severe headaches and migraines. Simbircite also restores emotional balance, relieves depression, insomnia, phobias, and increases resistance to stress.

Important! To enhance the healing effect of Volga amber, periodic energy cleansing and recharging is recommended. After each treatment session, the stone is washed with running water. To recharge, just leave the mineral in the sun for a while.

The warm energy of the stone improves the functioning of all organs of the digestive system, and also helps with joint diseases (arthritis, arthrosis, gout, rheumatism).

From ancient times until today, crushed Simbirsk calcite has been used to heal wounds, any skin damage, and treat eczema.

Stone jewelry
Since simbirtsite is a local treasure of Ulyanovsk, this city has a lard museum of the Simbirsk mineral. The rarest and most beautiful samples of the mineral are collected there. In addition, this salon produces and sells exclusive jewelry and souvenirs. The mineral simbircite also has its own website.

In addition to jewelry, Simbirsk calcite is used for making large and small decorative items. The mineral is used for interior decoration. The gem is not suitable for external cladding, as it is unstable to temperature changes.

Products made from simbircite

The stone is used to produce inexpensive jewelry. It does not have jewelry value, but simbircite is used to make beautiful crafts - small figurines of animals.

The mineral is also inserted into a frame of silver or medical gold, making earrings, rings, and necklaces. Beads made from this gem are in particular demand.

How to wear and care

You can wear the stone daily as a talisman. You don't have to hide it under clothes. Unlike most other minerals, simbircite loves sunlight. From the sun it is charged with positive energy, which it then transfers to a person.

If the stone suddenly becomes dull, it is washed under warm running water and left to dry in the sun. This simple cleaning method allows the gem to additionally receive the energy it needs.

Price

Simbircite is in great demand only among collectors. For 1 kg of unprocessed ore they pay about 4-5 thousand rubles. The cost of crafts or jewelry with simbircite depends on the skill of the craftsman to work with the stone, the labor expended and the appearance of the resulting product. So, beautifully made beads will cost the owner 1.5-2 thousand rubles, earrings 800-1000, and a ring or pendant 500-700 rubles.

The indicated price is the minimum; only fakes are sold below. At the same time, there is an unspoken rule according to which the further the jewelry is purchased from Ulyanovsk, the more likely it is that it is a fake. Here, however, a lot depends on the price.

How to distinguish from a fake

Only a jeweler can distinguish a fake from a real stone. If the stone is not cut or found independently, then you can understand that it is simbircite by running something sharp and thin over its surface. A real gem will have a scratch on it. Conducting such an experiment in a jewelry store before purchasing, of course, is not recommended. If in doubt, they refuse the purchase or ask the seller for a quality certificate.

How to spot a fake

Simbirsk calcite is mined in limited quantities, and is rarely sold to other regions. Almost all of the extracted material is processed within Ulyanovsk. So the first sign of a fake will be the sale of stone products far outside the mining region at a low price. The average cost of 1 kg of honey gem is 5 thousand rubles.

Another way to check the authenticity of a mineral is to run it across the glass. The natural softness of simbircite will succumb to the glass and leave a scratch on the stone.

Place of Birth

Simbircite is a rare stone. It is found in only two deposits in the world. One is located in Russia near Ulyanovsk. It occupies an area of more than 40 km, stretched along the banks of the Volga, between the Simbirsk and Undorovskaya mountain ranges. Small deposits were discovered on the Oka River in Nizhny Novgorod.

The second deposit is being developed by the Argentine authorities, but it is very small; Argentinean masters cannot boast of large mineral extractions. Most often, stones discovered outside of Russia are of Russian origin and are valued very highly.

Astrologers consider simbircite a universal mineral that suits any zodiac sign. This gem will not harm anyone, bringing only positive emotions to a person.
